Johnny Winter . Revisited .

I pulled this album out of the cupboard recently and gave the vinyl a spin .
Apart from the fact that I don't play records that much any more I was nicely surprised at what I heard. Some Dirty / Clean kickass songs . By that I mean Johnny Winter is an intriguing musician. He's got a real dirty, powerful voice, and a beautiful flat out guitar sound. Immaculately executed , fast , traditional text book Blues scales driven harder than anyone I've heard.I'm talking Deep South Electric Blues . Haven't heard a lot of Johnny's stuff, what I have , especially this album , has been fantastic . Yeh, haven't heard anyone talk much about him on the board so I thought I'd express my feelings, and ask you all to post yours. My son started screaming at me to take "it" off, as was pretty loud, as it should be played . wink
Going to make a habit of getting the oldies but goodies out of "the cupboard" and listen to my old favorites. You forget what vinyl was like in this Digital age, they really come up swell. thumbs up!

Nice subject FLUX

Here are my favorite Johnny Winter releases...

Showcases his National Steel playing.

I'm Yours And I'm Hers
Be Careful With A Fool
Good Morning Little School Girl
I'll Drown In My Tears

Memory Pain
I'm Not Sure
I Love Everybody
Hustled Down In Texas
I Hate Everybody

This one sorta slipped under the radar...

...Johnny Winter And

Basically Johnny Winter plus The McCoys (Rick Zerringer/Derringer et al) but there are some cool dual guitar tunes here.
There's a Johnny Winter And Live release out there that isn't as good as this studio record.

Guess I'll Go Away
No Time To Live
(nice arrangement of the Traffic piece)
Prodigal Son
Rock&Roll, Hoochie Koo

(The definitive version of this song. Not the hacked up Rick Derringer solo version)

Whatever you do, stay away from his latest outing...

...I'm A Bluesman

A friend of mine let me listen to this.
I couldn't get past the 1st cut. JW has gone down hill in a bad way.

Johnny has had some SERIOUS medical problems of late. If I remember correctly, problems with his hips and nerve damage with his wrists. I think he has had surgery to correct some of his ailments.
