I will admit it's a one of those typical rare, underrated EWF albums just like Faces but I'm starting to love it. Power is a jazz-funk fusion classic. How do you feel about it?

yeah I can agree with that. Power is an especially overlooked song in the EWF catalogue

The song "I'd Rather Have You" is my favorite track from this album. It's beautiful. There are a few other good songs ("Power","Time Is On Your Side") but this is probably the weakest album they released in the 70s.In 1972,they were going through a transitional phase and they hadn't yet found their groove. The production thoroughout is messy and occasionally unfocused.Notably, this is the first Earth Wind and Fire album that features Philip Bailey.

What do you guys think of the first two Earth Wind and Fire albums, released on Warner Bros.? This was before Philip Bailey joined the band.

I think those two, "Earth Wind and Fire" and "Need Of Love" were interesting, as primal, raw soul/funk/rock/latin/jazz fusion albums... certainly different from the smooth, polished sound that classic EWF would eventualy have, but if you listen to these, and then "Last Days and Time", you see the natural progression(actually, there was also the Soundtrack before this -they did the Score for "Sweet Sweetback's Baadaasss Song")--- like you said, Philip (and others like Larry Dunn and Ralph Johnson) had not entered the picture yet. Incidentally, there's one track on the first album called "Love is Life", which EWF remade on their Avatar/ In The Name of Love album, which is a good example of the two different sounds...

Heard the tune Power but didn't get into the group fully until the following album...

...Head To The Sky

They seemed to have "found their groove" (DavidEye) here.
From Evil to Zanzibar, there's not a throw away tune in the bunch.

I remember it very clearly. That was the first album I ever purchased. Up 'til then I only brought 45's. Riding my 10speed to the avenue to get this album. Needless to say I played it over and over and over 'bout a kazillion times(early days of my guitar training). Incredible music was available back then. I truly miss those days when artist could express themselves musically freely and still get some radio airplay.[b]
