i hope he sticks to being "executive producer" and doesn't actually produce any of the tracks himself. because he really sucks. quite possibly the epitome of everything that's wrong with r&b production today.

Being that as it may he'll most likely give her a hit record, and that's all Janet cares about.

unfortunately, that seems to be her problem lately. overly concerned with making a hit record to the point where everything on the last 2 album sounds pretty dull.

can we have something daring again, Janet? in the vein of Control, Rhythm Nation, The Velvet Ropes, and parts of "janet."? pretty please?

despite the hype JD is framing the project with, i really don't see anything daring coming out of a JD/JJ collaboration circa 2004/2005.

Janet was so young and idealistic when she thought of concepts like "Control" and "Rhythm Nation". I'm happy for her success but she's pretty much a settled individual now. UNLESS her Nipplegate controversy has gotten her all riled up about the consequences of living in a "free" yet hypocritical society. If she wants to elaborate on her position as THAT woman then we'll be talking about something. But JD? I doubt he has it in him.

After the year she's had I'd think she'd be able to record some of that anger she exhibited in TVR and self-assertion from janet and RN1814 but like it's been said I can't see JD bringing that out. The guys that know her best or Jam & Lewis but she may need to go in a different direction from them too at this point. I want something gritty and raw from Miss Janet but I hate to get excited when people talk about albums before they're released or even recorded yet. I think Yoda said it best, "Too much talk leads to expectation which leads to disappointment."

Just surprise me with something hard!

Sounds like Janet is going to make a record for Clear Channel and not her fans. Once this new record comes out, I'm going to hug my copy of "Damia Jo" (it is the japanese edition, after al) and never let it go!

Then again, this sounds promisig, considering the strenghs of "Damita Jo".

"We start that next year," he added. "For this record, it's gonna be all dance, though. It's gonna be straight 'Control,' 'Nasty,' hard-ass beats, memorable melodies. It's directed to her fans, people who miss dancing, people who miss seeing videos with dancing. These [younger artists] are sloppy, they don't take it as serious as she do. They don't rehearse for the hours she do. It's serious business for her and her family and her brothers. It's important for kids to see that and bring that back to life."

But can't Janet is capable of making a dance music album herself...and didn't you produce the lifeless "My Boo".

JD is sending "mexed missages". This could be a great album or it could suck. We'll have to wait and see.

JD is smart and talented producer, He will pull all the stops for Janet on this album and probably be some of his best work 'cause Janet got him "pussy whipped"! that's what girlfriend does best. She had Rene Elizondo doing some amazing work while he was with her! so JD "What have u done Janet lately? how about a comeback album baby?
I would love to hear Janet and Dre that would be really something! I think Dre just might say yes!

Funny becuase I look at JD hyping up this record as almost a threat to Janet and the control she's had on her records. To a certain extent, I think "All For You" suffered becuase of too many hands in the kitchen (Rockwilder) and that was certaintly the case with "Damita Jo", although some new collobrators were welcomed (including BAG and Babyface).

Sounds like someone has a really good theme for the album! I'm hoping JD doesn't influence her to write fluff and that Janet gets more into this new album than he appears to be.

That's my thing, good themes. (LOL) But I'd be fired quickly as a manager. I can see janet right now staring at me with her that's-too-risky look.

honestly, its exciting and all but it just makes me disappointed that damita jo is over. it just sad that if an album isn't an instant number one and doesn't sell one million units in two weeks, nobody cares to nurture the album and work through to get a sleeper hit. virgin f'd this record up something fierce and the least they owe janet is some support behind t. where is rnb junkie as a singlevideo? where is slolove as a single/video? where are spending time with you or island life as singles/videos? yeah, there's backlash and it sucks. wonderful. now put your ass to the grindstone and make this shit work. pay the radio stations the way everybody else does. pull favors and get tough with the video networks. shut, virgin has practically no major artists on their roster and this is how they handle janet's first problem?

yeah, a new album and all the rumours and hype that go along with it will be fun. i'm just a little salty that no effort was put into damita jo an the release seemed f'd up from the get go.

You fail to realize though that the country went into this huge puritan kick that it's still in. NO amount of money would've convinced Clear Channel to play those songs. MTV I won't even mention. That's just a sad mess in itself.

Indeed. In the UK it was merely regarded as a desperate publicity stunt to sell her new album. It backfired. The album was a low seller here. Neither of the singles made Top 10. Great tit though. Hope she shows the other one for her next album, so I can play SNAP with JanFan4Llllll lol

Plain fucking stupid reaction in the US. It was a PUBLICITY STUNT shitheads, not a full-out assault on your constitutional rights not to see a great looking titty on prime time tv. Fucking morons.

There were some great songs on that album - albeit buried under a layer of crap. Shame it sank under the backfire exhaust. "All Nite" should've been a monster hit - even if she wrote it about her in-house troll's trouser trout.

"I ain't trying to do nothing that don't win awards," Dupri said last week in Los Angeles about what he wants to bring to the project. "I see a void in music. Any time I make records, I try to fill the void with what's missing. I think everything [Janet] brought to the table in the beginning of her career and throughout her career is missing. The kids don't have nobody to follow, they're lost. The music industry is so wide open for a person that's creative like me, it's like a video game.

What void did My Boo fill? confuse

"You don't have no TLCs no more, no BBD [Bell Biv DeVoe]," he continued. "You just have music artists that's like, 'I can sing.' They don't have no kind of concepts to them. Nothing flavorful about that. You just have executives that put stylists with singers and that's it."

Interesting quote, especially considering that TLC was put together by executives.

I like Jermaine Dupri, but his sound doesn't change much. Let's hope this doesn't end up sounding like a whole album's worth of Mariah remixes lol
