If I just want something upbeat to listen to-- you know something enjoyable to play in the background then I'd go with Thriller. If I'm in the mood for a musical experience then I'd play 1999. Oddly enough the production of 1999 is much more dated than that of Thriller. However, the songs are such that they haven't lost any of their magic.

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' and Billie Jean beats all the songs on 1999 for me. They still sound fresh and exciting. Billie Jean is a legendary song.

But on a song on song basis, I might say 1999 is the better album.Maybe

I really can't choose neutral

Nah, Thriller is my least fave, MJ album and 1999 is my fave Prince I HAVE TO go with 1999 biggrin

You just compared the order of the tracks as opposed to pairing up tracks with similar sound
How silly

1. I can do what the fuck I want 2 do.

2. There are no similar sounds. Thriller is more organic pop/soul and 1999 is more synth/ drum machine funk/new wave.

3. If it's that important to you to try to compare the sounds then knock yourself out.

4. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

W/O a doubt I would go with 1999 FO SHO

dont get me wrong now..THRILLER is tight!! A landmark album musically! But there's one thing that always has bothered me about Michael and Stevie..they always were squeaky clean with their music..Prince wasnt tryna be NOBODY role model.....and I like the fact that Prince did what he wanted and SAID what he wanted..he wasnt tryna be all clean and nice.....so I think that alone gives "1999" an edge PLUS "1999" was a musical explorative trip..from "1999" to "International Lover." Thriller seemed like Michael was trying to creative a crossover hit album..while its debatable if Prince was doing the same, he STILL had the rawness, the IN YO FACE attitude that he was gonna do what he wanted..for Gods sake, half the songs on the album are over 6 minutes long...."1999" is the BOMB!

STEVIE?

Stevie Wonder, squeaky clean? Hmm... You are aware Stevie performed songs other than My Cherie Amour and Hey Love aren't you? :p

yeah, Stevie's had his badass side too, even his racy/seductive side. And Michael? Since when did Michael not have sexual songs?; even freaking don't stop till you get enough is quite sexual. In terms of lyrical explicitness, prince has them beat, but is that really that important? In fact that's one of the reasons I wouldn't rank Prince as high as Stevie in the list of the greatest artists ever because, to a large extent, everything ultimately boils down to sex with prince (don't bother posting non-sexual prince songs to prove me wrong i'm just saying that the majority of his music is preoccupied with sex). And what the hell do you mean squeaky clean? Are you saying you don't like that Stevie's not an asshole the way prince has been to his bandmates, girlfriends and fans over the years? Stevie's a nice guy, so what? In fact, by all accounts stevie's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, that's what makes him cool that he hasn't let his talent or his success go to his head. Michael, yeah, I can see where you're coming from with trying to be "squeaky clean" because it is a very calculated attempt at appearing a certain way. But other than the occasional "heal the world" I don't think it significantly hurts Mj's music.

"Lady Cabdriver" made me appreciate "1999".....
The album is better than "Thriller".....

This always gets me.....
I remember when "Thriller" was the thang & rightfully so.....
Mike was on it that year....
The motown performance & winning awards.....
But when "Purple Rain" came out the following year, people were saying,
"Thriller who???".....
"Rain" knock "Thriller" out the box.....
I still enjoy them both, but "99" gets the edge.....

Thriller

For Billie Jean, Beat It, Human Nature, PYT, alone it beats 1999 IMO.
Though i love 1999 a lot, Thriller stands the test of time and is not forgotten.
