1999 or Thriller

They were both released back in '82 and they are classics. So, which album did you like and which one was the most entertaining that year? I can't really choose because they are the greatest, but if I was to name the top or best album of 1982 it would have to be Prince's 1999. Yep, it was one hell of a long record but it was really hip. Thriller, on the other hand, was overrated, but til this day, I play it and it sounds like it was recorded yesterday.

My favorite of '82: Prince's 1999

Which one was your favorite? 1999 or Thriller

"1999" by a landslide!!

But let's make it fun...

Track 1: "1999" over "Wanna Be Startin' Something"

Track 2: "Little Red Corvette" over "Baby Be Mine"

Track 3: "Delirious" over "The Girl Is Mine"

Track 4: "Let's Pretend.." over "Thriller"

Track 5: "D.M.S.R." over "Beat It"

Track 6: "Billie Jean" over "Automatic"

Track 7: "Something In The Water..." tie "Human Nature"

Track 8: "P.Y.T." beats "Free" and "All The Critics", but gets its ass stomped by "Lady Cab Driver"

Closing Track: Gotta pick "Lady In My Life" over "International Lover, but ONLY because it's the last true romantic ballad MJ released and "International Lover" is a re-write of "Do Me, Baby"
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Thriller, mayne, Thriller. Easily it goes to Thriller, All of the songs sound fantastic to listen to today and less dated than that of 1999. Most songs from thriller still get played in clubs today, and i aint talkin bout no retro joints.

Thriller for me. 1999 just overall hasn't aged as well. If Thriller had been all MJ written songs, than it wouldn't even be close

As for Albums 1999, because Prince didn't milk it for 20+ years after he made it. Every Album Jacko has made it a remake of really "Off the Wall" (Thriller was a improvement, but when you look back 22 years later. It is just another remake to something that was "amazing" for a 8 month period in 1983.

Speaking of Thriller, lets talk about the music video & do a little research of something Jacko "Stole". (He loved using that word in his MJ Home Movies Special on FOX when he was talking about Janet "stealing" his dance style for Rythmn Nation. But in that same special when he talked about himself & the Thriller Era he said he was a "Innovator" eek eek )

The Thriller Music Video was stolen FROM The Greg Kihn Band! They did a Music Video in 1983 called "Jeopardy" in which they had Zombies!! Greg was in this video getting married and then all the people in the church became Zombies including his bride! THEN all the Zombies went after him and he fought them off with a piece of wood from the Church Pew (Bench).

"In February of 1984 "Thriller" made its debut on MTV and it truly revolutionized the art of making music videos and forever changed the future of making videos."

http://www.darkecho.com/d.../kihn.html

"Jeopardy," a cut from the 1983 album Kihnspiracy, became their biggest hit. The influence of MTV was just beginning to be felt in those days and the video for the song, a mini-horror movie directed by Joe Dea, was remarkable for the time. "Up until then, most videos were faked 'live' performances featuring big-haired women in lingerie running up and down alleys," explains Kihn. "'Jeopardy' was a concept video, and it offered an interesting alternative. As a result it got tons of airplay and became an international hit. I toured the world."

Greg Kihn certainly maximized the benefits of MTV exposure. His single "Jeopardy," buoyed by a video that received heavy MTV rotation, caught fire in the spring of 1983. At a time when most videos featured lip-synched performances and few special effects beyond the ubiquitous smoke machine, "Jeopardy" was a virtual epic. Kihn played a groom experiencing much more than the normal wedding day jitters -- ultimately, his horrific hallucinations spook him so much that he sneaks out the back door of the church, only to bump into his bride-to-be, who is doing the same thing. The couple shares a chuckle before tooling off in Kihn's convertible. Due in large part to the video, "Jeopardy" peaked at #2 on the pop charts in May 1983.

Greg Kihn's "Jeopardy" Video debut in the Spring of 1983

Jacko's "Thriller" Video debut in February of 1984

Jacko STOLE another thing here!!! IF you gave Greg the #1 Money Push & $1 Million Dollars to make His "Jeopardy" Video, with Rick Baker & John Landis.. He would have gotten all the hype & praise Jacko got for THIS video! Greg did it on a show-string budget.. BUT HE thought up the Video Concept!

NOT Jacko!

Chalk up another Stolen Idea to Jacko's List!

1) Moonwalk- Electric Boogaloo

2) The Robot from Dance Machine- The Lockers

3) Human Beat Box - The Fat Boys

4) Jackie Wilson & James Brown for ALL his other Dance Moves

5) Music Video Blueprint - Gene Kelly & Fred Astaire Movies

6) Song Ideas for his Solo Career - Unsigned Demos sent to His Father's Vanity Label

7) Thriller Music Video Concept - Greg Kihn's "Jeopardy".

Edgier too. I love the production on 1999. "the girl is mine" really lets the album down as a whole. But even without that song, I'd still pick "1999"

Due in large part to the video, "Jeopardy" peaked at #2 on the pop charts in May 1983.

sooooo...

Some guy called Greg having zombies in his video? Mike aint steal the idea from him. He got the idea from John Landis's Film, American werewolf in London, and so asked the same man to direct his video. That aint stealing thats inspiration mate. STFU thumbs up!

RipHer2Shreds

Of course, I love both. But there are a couple songs on 1999 that I skip, so I guess I'd begrudgingly choose Thriller.

I love Thriller but 1999 is one of those albums that I'd take on an island and forced me to listen and approach music in a whole different way. 1999 was part of my Musicology lesson plan so I gotta go with P on this one.

Automatic, Lady Cab Driver, DMSR and International Lover keep MJ on the ropes fighting a knock down.
