Anyone like SARAH BRIGHTMAN?

I pride myself in having an amazingly eclectic taste and sometimes...an artist will come around and catch me off guard. About 6 years ago I was working at a Virgin Megastore and the in-store play included her 1997 album TIME TO SAY GOODBYE and featured that highly popular title track w/Andrea Bocelli. I ended up falling in love with her voice and have been a fan ever since.

It was a bonus to find out she was the original Christine in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. I just recently caught her HAREM TOUR show at the Staples Center here in L.A. she just blew everyone including myself away.

It amazed me that in a 2 hour-plus show she never lip-syched a note and her soaring vocals never let up. Even when she was suspended in mid-air spinning around and around during the 'Question of Honor' encore or her beautifuly somber version of Queen's 'Who Wants To Live Forever' in which she stands out in the center of a long catwalk that practially streches to the middle of the arena and is lifted in the air as she looks to be flying in the air looking like an angel with her tiara and white gown. I cant help but to think of all these 'divas' that have great voices but when it comes to doing a full scale tour and sing live, they either just dont tour or use pre-recorded vocals throughout their sets. I'm not naming names but they've all been extensively discussed here and we all know and love em. But here's a 40+ year old siren who tours 3/4 of the year and never lets up.

After watching this show which some may feel is over-the-top...I can't help but to think that Celine really must have taken notes from Sarah's tours. I have all of her live DVD's and she's been doing this for many years.

Anyone else enjoy this magnificant singer or am I the only one?

She really is a magnificent vocalist. One listen to "Time To Say Goodbye" will demonstrate that.

Unfortunately her music can be a tad....repetitive.

I can see that. She tends to be overly dramatic at times but I think that's in part of her theater background. This current tour she picked the best from all of her albums including her take of 'Nessum Dorma' from EDEN and it's out of this world. I do have to say that her version of 'What A Wonderful World' is not good. Louis Armstrong owns that always and forever.

there was a kickass remix of her cover of "A Whiter Shade of Pale" that came out a few years ago.

She is fantastic, her voice has an ethereal quality that is rare these days. Also, I think that she was responsible for helping Andrea Bocelli to become more famous. Of couse, it didn't hurt her career to sing with him either. biggrin
