Some love for The Manhattans Just heard There's No Me Without You and had to do this.
Currently led by founding member "Blue" Lovett and the amazing lead vocals of Gerald Alston, this group continues the rich tradition of R&B vocal groups. It seems they often get lost in the shuffle amongst The Temptation, Four Tops, O'Jays, etc. But these are some great tunes. Many featuring the signature "Blue" Lovett monologues. There's No Me Without You Don't Take Your Love Kiss And Say Goodbye (written by "Blue" Lovett and became the 2nd Platinum single in history) Shining Star They'll be in my hometown on December 19th, playing at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. (Lil Sis, check up) ![]() ***Extra Credit - What was the 1st Platinum single in history? tA ![]() http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Gerald's melow alto lead vocals took the group to the next level. Shit, I have fond memories of mom playing the 45 of Kiss And Say Goodbye in 78.

Their entire 1980 album 'After Midnight' is a classic!! Remember the tracks on Side One?
"Shining Star" "It's Not The Same" "Girl Of My Dreams" "Cloudy With A Chance Of Tears" "The Closer You Are" ![]() I also have their 1976 album 'The Manhattans' which includes their biggest hit ever---"Kiss And Say Goodbye".It was remastered with bonus tracks. Are there any other Manhattans albums that I should look for?

My late great-uncle used to sing "Shining Star" whenever he had a few too many and started to "feel good". Miss him much ![]() Glad to see Gerald Alston back with them. I remember his solo career. He always did those videos where he was dating these chicks young enough to be his daughters' daughters. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

I just remember the songs sound superb everytime they come over the radio. Heard them live once and Gerald Alston has the pipes. ![]() After Midnight isn't listed for sale on cduniverse or allmusic. I saw them in concert back in August 1996,and they put on a kickass performance!! They prefaced "Kiss And Say Goodbye" by pointing out that it was the Number One song exactly twenty years ago,and they were right. In August 1976,it reached Number One on the pop and R&B charts.

Several months ago, I was giving a ride home to a woman about twice my age whom I didn't know that well. "Kiss and Say Goodbye" came on the radio, and we both started singing. We looked at each other, laughed, then I turned it up and we continued singing the song note for note, at the top of our lungs, snapping our fingers and the whole nine! We became great friends after that.
