:::waits for the P comparison comments to come:::

I like 3 songs on the album (When Will You Call, Sometimes & Soul Sista). Those I like a LOT, the rest is filler to me. There's an arrogance about him that bugs me. But I hope to hear more from him, maybe a greater amount of his future stuff will sound good to my ears... if he continues to record...
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

nod I agreed with you Calhoun on this artist. He has some untapped potential once he gets past the ego trippin and unecessary BS.

The only thing on that album that I remember reminded me of Prince was "Sometimes."

But everything seems to sound like Prince around here. shrug

Actually none of his stuff reminds me of P. I think any Black man doing a falsetto is just gonna fall under an automatic comparison or something confused

Man, what I meant with the "comparison" is the fact that he is playing original music. He is not copying and pasting another familiar artist IMO. People that generally listen to Prince are looking for something new and unfamiliar. I think "1st Born Second" has a lot of the same multi-layered vocals that our boy uses. I've seen him live 3 times and even met him and chatted for a while after a concert. Funny thing is that my boy that I used to colab with in our home studio's turned out to be his bass player. I found that out the first time I seen him play in Philly! I was like, "Yo dog whatchoo doin up on stage bro??" He just pointed at me and laughed hysterically.

As with Alicia, you need to give this a good 4-5 rotations. I am now in love with this album.

"Love It" was the bomb song. "Sometimes" I didn't like on first listen so I thoroughly and fully ignored it and then Byron included it on a mix Cd he made for me and I became obsessed with the song. Obsessed to the point that I would actually cry at how deliciously beautiful his voice and harmonies are in that song. Thanks Byron!!!

speaking of arrogance...what the hell does his name stand for? Can't remember but each letter of his name stands for something. Really turned me off when I heard him preachin on it in the album opener....

I have the album with "Fastlane" on it. His album had a (real) hiphop sound.

Of course I don't know him personally so I can't say for sure, but I've heard from many different people that that's what he's on. And he certainly seemed like it when I saw him. In fact, I don't think I've ever gone to see a show where the lead performer was so out of it. Except maybe for H.R. from Bad Brains. lol

I've heard several accounts (whether true or not) that dude is on heroid (along with D'Angelo and Roy Hargrove). The most recent incident I heard was from a fellow co-worker who saw him in L.A. a few months back. She recalled that he was so intoxicated AND high before he got into the club that his entourage was practially carring him. Once inside, he went straight to the bar and was yelling obscenities at everyone around him before finally passing out.

I've heard some of the same. Unfortunately, it possibly could be true. Remember he did write in his lyrics, "I wish I was drug free sometimes"...

Man, I wish some catz would just leave drugs alone. We've seen the loss of too many musicians with talent. Dag!
