The Talking Head's Once in a Lifetime boxed set really gave me a taste of what Remain in Light and Fear of Music would sound like if given the re-master treatment. Let's hope with the arrival of The Name of This Band... the rest of the remasters aren't too far behind.

the once in a lifetime box set is a freakin FEAST for anyone who likes talking heads...i already had all that material, and it was a treat listening to those discs anyway (not to mention i have all the videos on DVD now!).

I've got the original "Stop Making Sense". What are the new ones like?

third, i really wish they'd remaster/re-issue Madonna's albums, adding extended versions, remixes, soundtrack and compilation tracks, b-sides, etc. some of her biggest hits aren't on the main albums. and those remasters of the first album, "Like A Virgin," and "True Blue" are a decent enough idea, but tacking on just 2 remixes each at the end really doesn't cut it. seems pointless. they need to start over and make them each complete.

Those Madonna ones sound great but are way skimpy in the bonus material.

Is the box set worth getting if I already have "Sand in the Vaseline", or should I wait til their albums get the remaster treatment?

i think it's worth it, but i'm a diehard talking heads fan...but not so diehard that i'd get sand in the vaseline, once in a lifetime AND their recent one-disc greatest hits CD...that would be silly. but once in a lifetime is great - you get the DVD of all their videos (and if you haven't seen their "storytelling giants" video compilation, you're in for a treat...and if you have seen it, there's more stuff tacked on to the end), the book that comes with it is really good and has essays from everyone in the band, and the discs of music sound really, really, really good. can't say there's much in the way of previously unreleased stuff...maybe a few alternate versions of songs, but not many...if you want previously unreleased stuff, you should get "the name of this band is talking heads" instead.

Thanks. biggrin I knew I could count on you.

So do they have definite plans to reissue their albums?

For some reason, I've been really feeling "Speaking In Tongues" and the first Tom Tom Club album lately.

Feel free to quote this one.. it's a fair candidate. In fact alot of IRS records releases need remastering (ie, R.E.M.).

And BTW, you're probably better off looking for both separately, and if you can get them real cheap, even better. I've seen the whole set for $29.99! I also remember seeing the RN DVD seperately for something like $10.99 (the CD is probably around that much at most stores). I think it's called "Rhythm Nation Compilation" (now you want to own it more, because it rhymes!)

Good news then...REM's albums are getting reissued!

Yeah, their Warner albums! Ain't I a stinker!

It looks like they are re-releasing their "Best Of" from last year....what the fuck?

I think the funniest remasters were the Death Row remasters. I guess their whole catalog including Tha Dogg Pound Dogg Food album from 1995 deserved a revamp four years later.
