Dunno exectly where to place these icelandic guys(?) but i find it strangely compelling (at times).

Give it a listen and/or download

Plus they're so cool in their free release of songs

I love these guys. If you get a chance, check out the translation of their lyrics. Mind blowing stuff! biggrin

I like their music. I listen to it when I want to relax or calm down. I've seen them perform once: it was great, despite the hour. They were to play in a tent in the afternoon (Rock Werchter, Belgium).neutral
I think their music is best to be listened to at night, or twilight. That would have been perfect.

Are you sure the lyrics can be translated? I always thougt they made up a language, with a few 'icelandic' words in it. Where can I find those translations?

One of my favourite bands. So beautiful and creative ~ they play quitars with violin bows. I have also read that their lyrics are a word soup of madeup/Icelandic but they can be loosely translated. Here is a great site for downloads and information. http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/
If anyone REALLY loves them, I have a brilliant live concert from 1999 performed at the Icelandic Opera House that I would happily send to you.Just org note me.

I love this band. Are they a little pretensious? Yup. Do I care? Hell no. Absolutely gorgeous music.

I've been lucky enough to catch them live twice. The first was in a small theater in Mpls- brilliant show. Between the lights and their wall of sound, I left the show feeling like I was tripping. The second was at Glastonbury- at dusk in the rain. Fuckin PERFECT enviornment to see them. That was one of my all-time favorite music experiences.

Thanks for the thread! thumbs up!

ehhhh....can you show me those translations??? disbelief

Sigur Ros' lyrics are written & sung in 'Hopelandic', a language made up by the singer. It actually means jack-shit.....sure, the singer will have his own meanings, explainations & emotions to the sounds he makes.....but will we understand? I think Sigur Ros wants to leave the interpretation of their music totally to each individual listener. And that's what I like about them.

nod

I don't know if I'd even want to read the 'translations'. A big portion of my fascination with their music is their ability to express such powerful emotion without using words that I can understand. It amazes me.
