You know, part of me really wants one of these.

But I'm too stuck on the CD format. It sounds nice to be able to have all of my favorite music in one place. But I just like the limitations of making an 80 minute disc "just so". I'm sure I'll break down at some point. I was resistant to the internet and dvd's at first too. lol

IPods are too expensive for me to have right now. Hopefully, Santa'll be good to me this year and suprise me. lol They'd be nice and convenient to have...especially since I'm constantly changing my cds. I really like the U2 I-pod, but I'm not that big enough of a fan to pay more for that one. They should make more colors for the original IPods....I know you can buy covers for them though. The mini IPods are cute, but it doesn't hold enough and with the price on that one, you might as well get the $400 one. And I never see anybody using regular headphones with an IPod.....those earbuds would drive me crazy.

Nice. Which one did you get 20 or 40 GB? What color is it?

Did you get the special edition black & red iPod or the original white version?

I see you went all out and got the 40 GB. You can hold virtually your entire music collection on there.

An iPod (PC, HP or Mac version) will never play WMA files. But, you can easily convert your WMA files to MP3 files through different programs (Google "ipod convert wma" or "ipod wma files") -- you'll discover some helpful sites.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't use my iPod.

If i get one it'll be a cheaper mini IPOD, don't they hold about 500 tracks anyway? i'll only use it while i'm commuting to work and back anyway so don't see the need for one that holds thousands of tracks.

anybody got the smaller version? any good?

Hey, a friend of mine bought a 40 GB iPod at a store called Guitar Center for under $200. There was a special sale. You don't have to go just to the Apple store. Try independent retailers, they often times have better deals.

Also, try eBay. You'll find it at a nice price there. People are always selling 2, 3 & 4 Gens.

I'm a gadget freak and a music freak and a clothes freak...so,I have several music gadgets.I have 4 mp3 players and a mini disc. One is an ipod. It is a nice toy,but you can get some really cool playesr for less than an ipod. I real;ly think the price is robbery. It costs about $10 to produce one.Creative Labs,Rio,i-River and some smaller and newer companies have nice players.Check them out if you want to save money.Ipods are really cool, but also so well marketed that some ppl tghink they are the only players out there. Plus,it is based on what your needs are.

Now,I have a 30 gb ipod ,but i really need a 40 or 60. I'm a person that wants all my stuff on there.I want the bootlegs, official albums, comedy stuff....spoken word..I want it all available to me whan I desire. So,I will have to upgrade very soon. I'm gonna check out one them thingies that hold movies and music.I could save a couple of dvd's to the playera nd have my music.watch a little porn at work,ya know?

I really want one now. I mean, i guess i could get any mp3 player, but the ipod is like the best of the best. and it would be nice for school to be able to store all my files onto it.

Just the thought of having my madonna, janet, mj, and prince cds all in one little unit makes me high.

I hope santa slips one in my stocking this year.

Thanks for the info. I was in Target the other day and there were several different mp3 players on the rack. I was wondering what the difference was between those and the iPod, because I only hear about the iPod. I don't have hundreds of dollars to plop down on a gadget, but I would be willing to pay up to $200.

BTW, can mp3 players be hooked up to external speakers? I'm not talking about those tiny speakers, but the big speakers that have woofers.

twocents I seriously don't know what I did before the ipod, oh wait, I know exactly what I did. I carried cd's in cases that scratched them until they were no good and I bought them again. No, I don't work for Apple or Bose, I just love music and it's on.

Here's the new, amazing toy I just picked up.

The ipod sits in that craddle and the sound is unbelievable. Low ends shake my house and it has a clicker for going through songs (but not playlists). It's small but like the wave radio it sounds HUGE.

It's kickass and I love it.

I totally hear you! Before the iPod, I was lugging my CDs around in a puffy CD wallet, pulling them in and out just so I could get some variety. Endangering my out-of-prints and imports. With the iPod, I hardly use CDs anymore. I just use the CD to get the music, upload it on my comp to put on my iPod. I leave my CDs in their cases.

Plus, I got this new accessory called iCarPlayWireless and it hijacks my car's stereo and plays music wirelessly from my iPod to the stereo. I DON'T EVEN BURN CDs ANYMORE eek

I hear a song, download it, put it on the iPod, listen to it in the car, wherever. 60 albums on my iPod, put them on "random shuffle"... yes

I've re-discovered so many songs from my favorite old albums because of this thing.

I advise anyone thinking of getting an IPOD to stay well clear. It's only a fashion accesory! And wearing those white ear phones is just asking to be mugged. As someone already said, there are much better mp3 players for cheaper too.

If u do a bit of research first, there's no competition. I had a 40G Ipod and eventually got sick of it. It really has no features and the battery life is pathetic. Mine was meant to last up to 8 hours but in reality it's more like 4hrs max. The battery was constantly dying on me and what Apple fail to tell u is that when it runs out in 12-18 months the cost is 100 euro to replace it.

I sold my Ipod and got a 40G I-River instead. IMO this is the best thing on the market. It has an in built line in/line out. With the Ipod u need to use the dock to play it through your stereo which is a nuisance. And being able to record directly off your stereo is something the Ipod can't do either.

Also, the I-River has an in built FM radio, and a mic. U can record direct off the radio and use it as a dicta-phone (sp?). Say you're at a concert, just press record and voila u have your own bootleg version biggrin

The battery lasts 16 hrs, has never died on me and only costs 35 euro when it needs replacing. There's updates u can download for it has well which are free.

The only plus I can give the Ipod is the navigation system is much easier to use. Overall it's not that good though.

Let me share some real talk with you.

The "18 month" MYTH is UNTRUE.

Fact: I bought my first iPod (2nd generation) in March 2003.

That same iPod turned 18-months in Sept. 2004. It is now November 29, 2004. Everything still works and it plays songs. The buttons are in working order. It rarely freezes. The battery is not dead, its life isn't shorter, everything works as good as the day I bought it. Plus, that "iPod 18 month battery life" thing is a highly publicized myth -- even if it did break down, you can buy a new battery on 1 & 2G models for $20-$40 on the net.

Even more proof: iPod Battery FAQ

I now have the 4G (bought it in July '04 -- because it's sleeker, my music collection outgrew the old 10GB and I like to update my electronics... haven't gotten around to selling my older 2G, yet.)

The battery life is great on the iPod, IMHO. I don't know if you're the kind of person that hates to charge your battery every night, but that's what I do. I mean, if I use my iPod at work, I take the AC adapter with me because I know it's an 8 hour work day. I have no problems with the 2G's battery life. I can spend all day at the park, jog later that night and I'm cool.

4G's battery life is even longer. I go the whole day and never charge it. I use it around 5-6 hours a day and charge it maybe every other night (sometimes 3 days w/o charging depending on my usage).

One thing I absolutely adore about the 4G iPod is the "On The Go" feature. I can make an instant playlist of my favorite songs or albums directly on the iPod without having to attach it to my computer and updated through iTunes -- and I can save it. Plus, there's a calendar, a clock, games, an audiobook feature, sound adjusters, notes, iSync compatible -- so how is it featureless?

A lot of the things you've mentioned against the iPod seems based largely on hearsay, scuttlebutt and myth.
