You had to see Morrissey live to catch a great tour opening.

Also, that MJ Dangerous tour thing was not bad either.

I have to go with "If" from the janet. tour. I love the way Janet just appeared kneeling, really quietly in the midst of everyone just going crazy, and then how she just stared into the crowd and let them go nuts before she sang, "How many nights I've laid in bed excited over you..."... I'll never forget it! It was my first concert ever, and was one of the greatest nights of my life.
'Cause your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance... well, they're no friends of mine.

The best opening sequence of a tour has to go to Full Force. In 1986, they were at the Spectrum in Philly(now the Wachovia Center) and when the concert started all the lights went out. When the music started they walked from backstage onto the stage with their trademark bandanas and tight jeans and did an acapella version of "It was all in my mind". I have YET to see an opening better than that(Sorry Prince)

led zeppelin 1973 & 1975 tours - rock and roll

frank zappa 1980 tour - intro guitar solo (sometimes chunga's revenge, sometimes water melon in easter hay)

king sunny ade and his african beats 1983 - i don't know the particular song, but the intro was awesome. this is/was a nigerian band consisting of 11 drummers, 9 guitars, 4 vocalists, and bass. it starts with one drummer coming out and laying down a beat (on a traditional african drum), then one by one, another band member comes out, slowly buidling this this awesome crescendo. it was great.

talking heads 1983 - david byrne doing psycho killer on acoustice guitar with boombox.
