electronic confusion I'm looking to get some more electronic music for my driving lust. I've been reading alot about this BT guy and Paul Van Dyk and Sasha and Digweed. Is this stuff any good?I want to get some immediately. And I have been told that I should get The Saint soundtrack. Any suggestions or help? I know the stuff I've read about BT states ,basically, that the guy is a genius and that his albums are must-haves. Titles like mistl,r&r,icm, and something else. I readcthe guy grew up a classical music prodigy and that this bodes very well for his electronic stuff.
I went to best buy and all 5 guys that ran over to help me knew absolutely nothing. I don't know where to start. I want something interseting. And these damned cd's are all like,$18.99 and I don't want to buy a bunch of them and not use them. Also, are the soundtracks for video games cool?Years ago,we used to get higha nd play Tomb Raider and the music and scenery were always cool. Is this still teh case or was it the doobage? I actually bought this comp called this is trance! and it may work in the car. I will test it out soon. It's a continuous 80 minute mix .We'll see. I'm also gonna break out my Kraftwerk cd's and Beethoven discs and transfer to the mp3 players.I watched this show on the autobahn and I was salivating. Those fast ass cars going 110 and this guy was talking about listening to his Beethoven and transcending. That's what I'm talking about! "I'm a pig..so,magic elixir I swill"

Where's Superspaceboy? IMO, you've been given some excellent starting ideas. I personally don't own any Sasha/Digweed material, but they've rocked my box plenty of times. As for PVD- I would recommend starting with "Out There and Back." I must admit I'm quite biased, as this is my favorite techno/trance CD ever. It may be 5 years old now, but it's held up very well. It has moments which are much closer to the pop-side of trance, which makes it an easy CD to start with. The majority of the CD is just good ol' trance, however. Soaring Vocals, throbbing beats and that awesome trance build-up. An added bonus with this disc is that it's mixed like a DJ set- each song flows into the next making for a nice extended listening option. In spite of this, each song stands up very well in their own right. DAMN GOOD STUFF. For BT- "ESCM" is a very strong trance album. It has all the elements you'd want on a trance record. Track after track just pulls you into the beat and spits you out the other side. "Movement In Still Life" for me is a stronger album, though. He moves beyond the standard trance sound on many tracks on this CD- throwing some rap/hip-hop/breaks into the first part of this CD. The second part of the CD is back to traditional trance, but when it's this good, who cares? Another CD I'm a HUGE fan of is "Loud" by Timo Maas. And, since you are on a Prince site, if you haven't checked out these next 2, I'll strongly recommend it. They blend the best of electronic with so many types of music, that it's amazing. Basement Jaxx- "Rooty" (the best Prince album that Prince never made Daft Punk- Discovery I hope that helps!

Why thank you Endorphin...happy to help.
Unfortuneately...I am not a super big fan of the van dyke/sasha stuff (sorry I'm just not)...and I tend to go more for the artist than the dj....though I know these guys do make their own. Now BT, I am a fan. The ESCM album mentioned is good. Though some of his best stuff is off of IMA. IMA is very very good. ESCM start foraying into breakbeats, but still has elements of IMA. And of course there's movement in still life...another really good album that takes the elements of the previous 2 and kicks them up a little bit. BT is a musical genius and classically trianed, so any of these three you will love love love. He also has a greatest hits out. Strangely I can really recommend it...it's uneven??? Best way to describe it. Another one to check out is Robert Miles, kinda dream trance stuff. Children is a great tune. I have heard the rest of his stuff is good as well. I have the Saint...tis ok. It's electronic. GOt a few good tunes. But if you go that way...heck try out MTV's AMP comp, if they are still around. I personally thought Discovery by Daft Punk was OK. I "discovered" that their first album was SO much better. I'd get Homework...it's a classic Put down that "Trance" thing. Stay away from the video game stuff too. bad bad. The Beast Buy is really weak in the "electronic" category. They have all this compilation crap...that is pure crap. Electronic music ...good electronic music is hard to find...and it's genres and sounds are all over the map. AND it's not really something you can buy blindly...there's a lot of crap out there. If you are looking for decent compilations...the Euphoria series is not bad at all. They are a tadish pricey, but worth it. Each comp is 2 discs long. Now here's my own recomendations of some really good electronic shit...if the beast buy even carries it. Shpongle. and Banco de Gaia. Anything by these guys is ALLLLL good. Thanks, guys!!I'm gonna try all this.So far,I've purchased Bt's misl and emotional technology. I gotta tell you that I'm impressed. The music is...kinda beautiful. It's a trip. The dude is def talented and pretty damn funky with the beats. This guy isn't limited a style or genre. This guy is an artist. Now,his album covers are scary as hell, but go past that. I want more of his stuff, now.
I will also get some Van Dyk and Tiesto.I think I want the oakenfold global underground new york, also. You know,I'm surprised more artists don't collab w/BT. I could even see Prince experimenting with him. He's pretty melodic and seems to take risks with no problem. He could easily make every song a standard trance song and live an easy and wealthy life. Also, I was loaned a copy of Plastic Compilation vol 1 and The saint soundtrack. That Sarah M remix on Plastic is kinda' sexy. "I'm a pig..so,magic elixir I swill"
