LIVE AID ...the Box Set, then and now and thoughts

Well Im just starting to watch the LIVE AID box set and already Im feeling reflective on the time that has past and how all has changed. Before we talk serious lets talk about the box, OK I havent seen it all just started watching but IM glad that Geldof has left it alone and not let anyone come in and put a NEW take on Live Aid. Early on the disk are News reports From the BBC from 1984 then The BAND AID VIDEO and then the We are the world video, and then the show begins. Well Im not going to list it all here, but if U lived through it, or were glued to the TV that day as a teenager like me, then go get this box set right now. Of course there are omissions on this box set, still LEGAL disputes kept things like LED ZEP off the box and some others too. My only complaint were the TOTAL omissions of certain artists who didnt have legal issues in being put on this Box set, mainly Rick Springfield and Tears for Fears are totally cut off. Almost Every set is trimmed down somewhat, the Set runs over 10 hours, sure I hoped for it all but hey, we are lucky to get this. There are some sets that I never saw on the Broadcasts, such as INXS and ADAM ANT. With that said I was just watching the Phil Collins and Sting set, solo, then when they Played together. I guess i realized how this type of thing could just never happen again, the funny thing is that many of the artists on this Box set still record and play. But if U tried to put this together today....Could U...Between Egos, Legal Tie ups, Lipsynching, clip tracks, this just couldnt happen again. Music now couldnt have the HEALING that it did back then, too many today are concerned "how they Look" or whos going on First or "wait Someone in the Crowd has a gun" or backstage fights and of course showing each other up by stripping off some clothes. grabbing a breast or two girls kissing, stuff like that. While I was watching the BAND AID video and saw George Michael and Sting and Simon Lebon and Bono, I thought to myself HOW LUCKY i was to grow up with them and be born during the greatest Musical time period. And also the fact that those guys still kick ass!!

And I guess more importantly on the serious note, we as People just dont really care about anyone but ourselves. We are Mini corporations ourselves, thinking we are better than people around the world and that "THEY" are enemies or inferior. This is why we have no friends around the world (sorry George Bush, but we are alone in this fight), maybe its time to show GIVING again, instead of saying HOW we give, its all Lip service. As a country we give less than any other to nations such as Africa, and we wonder why we arent respected, and just viewed as an Evil nation that Blows up, rebuilds, and takes over.

Maybe it is Time for a New Version of LIVE AID, but with the same theme GIVING.

PEACE YALL
Enjoy the Box set!
