I have a Shalamar GH collection, which album should I start with? I have this compilation:
which I really, really love. Now I want to start to explore the individual albums. Which would you recommend?

Shalamar never really put out a great "album" IMO. They were basically a singles band. I think you already possess the best Shalamar album there is - GREATEST HITS.

My favorite Shalamar album is 'Friends' which was released in 1982.It's a very consistent album, and it contains several of their best songs...."A Night To Remember" (arguably their finest single),"Don't Try To Change Me","Help Me" (one of their strongest slow jams) and "I Can Make You Feel Good".
Btw,there is a better Shalamar compilation than the one you have. It's called "Shalamar Anthology" and it's a 2-CD set.It contains all the hits, plus many key album tracks.

Start off with "Three For Love", then get "Friends" and "Big Fun". Andy is a four letter word.

I recently saw a "Bands Reunite" special where they showed part of a attempt to reunite Shalamr. Howard agreed but Jody and apparently Jefferey declined. I've heard for years there was some animosity. Does anyone know what that is about?
I wonder what exactly would it take for them to reunite even if it were just for a night. I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

I wonder what exactly would it take for them to reunite even if it were just for a night. Does she ever (or did she ever, back in her solo heyday) perform Shalamar songs live? I've always kind of doubted it since quite a few people probably thought of Jody as her own artist and then went "She was in a group back in the day". I know I only found in the last few years she was in Shalamar before she was a solo hitmaker. [Edited 11/22/04 13:33pm]

...Big Fun (Right In The Socket, Second Time Around) There's an import that has both...

I wonder what exactly would it take for them to reunite even if it were just for a night. I saw them several times when they performed as Shalamar. As for the animosity, I HEARD (you know how THAT is!) that Howard told Jody after they broke up that she would never make it as a solo artist. Obviously, that is not the case, but she supposedly still resents the remark. (I, btw, am a big fan of Howard Hewitt!) Were they able to find Jeffrey? I haven't heard anything about him in a long while. Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.

I wonder what exactly would it take for them to reunite even if it were just for a night. A few years ago,Howard Hewitt appeared on one of our local "classic R&B" radio stations. He was in town for a concert.Of course, the DJ asked him about a possible Shalamar reuion with Jody and Jeffrey. He said that he has tried to talk Jody into doing it,but she won't budge.Apparently, she is still pissed at him for one reason or another. But according to Howard,he and Jeffrey are ready to do it.In fact, the two of them have played a few European dates, using another female vocalist, billing themselves as Shalamar. So,as far as a Shalamar reunion goes, the ball is in Jody's court.

Jody needs to relax. This has always been one of my top5 groups. I can listen to howard sing ANYTHING.

Yeah,Jody claims that when she left the group in 1983,Howard was furious and told her that she "would never make it as a solo act".She also says that when she won the 1987 Grammy for Best New Artist,he didn't even call to congratulate her.According to her,Howard was a "control freak" who made all the decisions. So,if what she says is true, you can understand why she would still be bitter, and not really enthusiastic about a reunion.

That's harsh, but when people say you can't make it on your own, they really just want you to stay with them, and that's a control freak's way of crippling your confidence.

She never really made it with him (in any sense). It's not like "Sex Shooter", even if it was an excellent track, was a huge hit.
