As many of you know, I'm a big fan of the Duke. But alas I only recently started really getting into him. I have great deal but I have a huge list of his stuff I want. Anyway, among the things I have I think that the Far East Suite is one of my favorites, it's just so evocative and cool.

I too have recently become a big Duke Ellington fan, and the 'Far East Suite' is just fantastic - gorgeous music and (as I have come to expect) some amazing piano from the Duke himself. Duke and Billy Strayhorn managed to evoke the sounds of the 'orient' while remaining firmly in the world of Ellingtonia.

Anyone who likes this ought to check out Duke's 'Afro-Eurasian Eclipse' album. More 'world sounds' mixed into the Duke's classic music.
