it is fucking boring. why do you think they only play that shit in bathrooms and elevators?

very well said! classical doesn't bother me too much but i can't stand jazz and people who listen to it think they're so cool, hip and cultured. please! that shit sounds like noise to me.

Yes, jazz listeners do think they are cool and are so very pretentious. NOTE: listening to jazz does not make you smarter than you are!! Though, some jazz is actually good-- not that experimental mess-- but that slow, scary sounding, ghost-summoning kind: like coltrane's WISE ONES and ALABAMA and LITTLE BROWN BOOK. And James Moody's LAZY AFTERNOON and Mile's stuff.

you're an idiot. What they play in elevators and on all the "jazz" radio stations IS NOT JAZZ. That kind of music is easy listening and smooth jazz, which yes is BORING AS HELL because it's NOT REAL JAZZ. Real jazz is intense and passionate, not a palliated emotionally dead bore like the music you're thinking of. Even on shallow levels like tempo and volume, the best jazz is more intense than even most rock. Good jazz has the power to be soothing and energizing all at once, and jazz is superior to any other genre in the level of musicianship. When people dismiss jazz in it's entirety it demonstrates nothing but ignorance. Jazz is like any other genre, there's good and bad and the bad jazz-based styles that most people are exposed to have tarnished jazz's reputation. Go listen to anything by Charles Mingus, Dizzie Gillespie or Duke Ellington, and tell me jazz is boring. In fact while you're at it, go to a good jazz concert. I've been to plenty rock concerts (even his royal badness) and jazz is just more moving and engaging (albeit in somewhat different ways). Sorry if this seems like a rant. Well actually I'm not sorry, I'm pissed as fuck that people are so shallow. Not all music has to grab your attention right off the bat in order to be good and just because not all jazz is as superficially exciting as other kinds of music, doesn't make it boring, but I guess you don't have the attention span for jazz, because it's not a genre for instant-gratification oriented listeners.

Dude you are CRAZY! You obviously must be listening to some shit reggaeton, but by make a blanket statement that "its horrible" is ridiculous!

Anything put out by LunyTunes, DJ Blass, DJ Nelson, Eliel as well as all the albums that came out in the last year or so: Yandel, Zion y Lennox, Tego, Guanabanas, Daddy Yankeee, Winsin! ... PPHSHSHS! rolleyes

I don't you ever even really listened to it, just judged it by people riding down the street blasting it.
Change it one more time..

If by "that experimental mess" you're referring to people like Sun Ra and Ornette Coleman than that's a stupid generalization. Free jazz isn't my favorite style of jazz, but experimentation is what good jazz, and good music, is all about and free jazz, when it works, works like nothing you've ever heard. 'Trane, miles and that stuff is all well and good, but though's guys are very mellow in comparison to the best be-bop, swing, and new orleans jazz.

yes, and I like the more mellow/scary sounding stuff! I am not saying it's better than bebop and swing-- well, yes I am saying it's better! It's better to me!

ever been to Bloemendaal Aan Zee on a summer wednesday-night? You know, that Q-Dance place? It makes you think: if a war breaks out, we will have to rely on these people.....It makes me sad! Maybe then, we can scare the invaders away with this music?
