The O'Jays are quite deserving as one of the premiere male R&B vocal groups.

The Pretenders have shown that it's possible to have a female (Chrissie Hynde), with a distinctive voice, front a rock group (with good songs) and not have to appear on stage half naked to be successful.

Hopefully the Buddy Guy selection will make people dig into his early catalogue (Chess, Vanguard), prior to his recent marketing as a rock star. Most notably his collaborations with Junior Wells and especially a live Vanguard release called This Is Buddy Guy. I'm glad he's finally getting more widespread recognition. It's just that the older material gives you a better understanding of why guitarists like Hendrix, Clapton and others have mentioned him as an influence.

I'm happy with the inductees, but I dunno - I think both Conway Twitty and Grandmaster Flash were worthy nominees Perhaps another year. I'd have been throwing things at my monitor if J. Geils made it!

It's great to see The O'Jays get into the Rock Hall Of Fame.They have recorded some of the best soul music of all-time.Their 70s output is simply amazing.

Buddy Guy deserves this honor as well.He's a blues legend.Currently,he's working on a new album that is being produced by his pal Carlos Santana.Can't wait to hear it!

I've already admitted that a major component of Rock and Roll is sex.
However when I think of The Pretenders in general and Chrissie Hynde in particular, MY 1st impression is not sex.
It's her voice and songs. This may have to do with the fact that I never found her to be sexy in the first place.

On that note, i'll end this by having you envision a present day Ann Wilson (or Patti Smith for that matter) and then tell me that the mere act of either of them putting on a pair of leather pants makes them sexy. It might for you, and that's OK. It just wouldn't do it for me.

From my perspective, hearing Chrissie sing the lyric...

I was a good time.
Yeah.
I got pretty good
At changing tires upstairs, bro.
I shot my mouth off and you showed me what that hole was for.

...is more of a turn-on to me than seeing her in a pair of leather pants...or "half naked".

"Sexy" is in the eye of the beholder, but I would have no problem saying that if either of them put on a pair of tight, leather pants, it would be with the intention of "sexing-up" their image.



So, sexual imagery in lyrics somehow has more integrity than sexual imagery in dress?

I figured U2 would make it in and they deserve it but it's really nice to hear that The O'Jays made it in. They made some classics and it's long overdue for them to get their props.

don't get me wrong, i really love the pretenders. i saw them live several times. their first album is brilliant, but their overall catalog is too weak for me to support their induction.

I hope Buddy Guy is inducted. He deserves the recognition of being the catalyst for every electric blues artist that's crunched out sound with extra soul in the generations after his own.
