Chaka Khan.."C.K."(1988)

I just bought Chaka's "C.K." album(for over $20 mind you) and I am so disappointed!! What is up with this album??? Chaka sounds bored on almost every song on this CD except for the 2 jazz selections.....WOW!
and you cant help but notice that her voice sounds "weird" on here..as if she was straining vocally....what was going on at this point with her?? WHOA!!!

some of the songs are just not good(i.e. "Soul Talkin" has an ok arrangement but the production is very chessy..ditto the Stevie Wonder remake, "Make It Last", "Its My Party")..... I am really speechlesss...if it had not been for the 2 jazz selections and "Eternity"..... sad

"WOMAN I AM" is much much better than this album!

Man, you should have bought it at the used CD store like I did. While she does do justice to most of the classic songs on the album, it's definitely not something you'd want to spend over 20 bucks for unless you were just a die hard fan. It's mood music at best.

I remember watching "Life Styles of the Rich and Famous" (probably right before it was cancelled) and Chaka Khan was featured. They kept saying how her career was doing really well...until "C.K". They kept talking about the album like it killed her career and they claimed it was an album she was really proud of, put a lot of time into, was sure was going to be a smash, etc. I don't think I've heard anything from it.
