If we can't count meet 'n' greets then I can only say:

Mikki Berenyi (Lush) in Grand Central Station. I saw her red hair from like 100 feet away and followed her until she stopped at a newsstand. I told her what a big fan I was and she shook my hand.

Melanie B on two occasions. The first was at the club, Nell's--she was just hanging out and dancing in the basement with friends. I shook her hand and told her how much I liked her solo album (lie) before I left. The second time was after one of her 'Rent' performances as she was leaving the theater. I took a picture with her that time.

It's amazing who you'll meet in NYC alone.

hmmm This is just off the top of my head:

Lenny Kravitz (I even created a thread about it)
David Byrne
Chris Frantz & Tina Weymouth
I just ran into Luke Jenner of The Rapture the other day. But we also met last year when I saw them in Ohio, as well as the rest of the band.
Adam Duritz (Counting Crows)
MCA & Ad Rock from Beastie Boys
That guys who plays drums for The B-52's
I'm actually good friends with Ednah Holt, who sang with Talking Heads.
Ani DiFranco
Buster Williams (for you Jazz fans)
Bow Wow Wow woot!
Kenwood Denard (he was actually good friends with my father, and facilitated his memorial.)
Hank Marr (who was a great man and was friends with my Grandfather.)
Jimmy McGriff (Same thing)
Various members of the Latin/Funk band War.
Gil Mantera's Party Dream (they're gonna be huge, I tell you, huge!)
The lead singer of King Missile

That's all I can think of right now. shrug

I told Paul Weller that I didn't like 'Heavy Soul'.....he was too drunk to give me a serious reaction, I guess he didn't care (I know I wouldn't!)....

I also met Jimbo and Taz from The Reverend Horton Heat back in '93 after they played at a club in Albuquerque. My friend worked there as a bouncer and I was waiting at the bar for him after the place had closed. As the band was packing up, Jimbo and Taz came up to me and said they thought I looked like the coolest guy there judging by my T-shirt (Alien Sex Fiend) and wanted to know if I wanted to go have a drink with them. I politely turned them down.

She was very nice both times. This was way after the Spice Girls' heydey so she may have just been thankful that she's still recognized.

I thought the singles from Mel B's CD were okay (Jam & Lewis produced one), but some of those album tracks were horrible.

I've met singers and actors also:

Angela Bofill - Very nice. She autographed my 45 of "Too Tough" and my "Greatest Hits CD.

Dottie Peoples - Very nice.

Larry Dotson from The Barkays. I met him on the sidewalk before his show. He was very nice. I gave him directions backstage. I didn't go back after the show to get an autograph because I knew there were two boa constrictors back there.

Luther Vandross - I only said "hi" to him and he said "hi" back to me as he walked past me backstage. One of his bodyguards got him to autograph my "Give Me The Reason" album and also the inner sleeve. It's real, I watched him sign it through the dressing room door. He is very much a prima donna.

Barry Williams (Greg Brady from The Brady Bunch) - Very nice. He autographed my program for the musical he was in.

Jesse Powell and Chante Moore - Both are very nice. Met them backstage and had my picture taken with them.

Kim Fields - I didn't actually meet her. She was supposed to be in a play in my city and was replaced by someone else. I showed my 45 of "Dear Michael" to the promoter of the play and she was shocked that Kim Fields had a record. She wanted to borrow it and surprise her in the next city. I lent it to her and she got it autographed and mailed it back to me. Kim Fields was very shocked that I had it.

Gary Collins and Mary Ann Mobley - Both are very nice.

Barbi Benton and her husband...don't know his name but he plays James Steinback on "As The World Turns" - Both are very nice.

Jerome Benton from The Time - Very nice. Spoke and shook hands when he motioned for me to come onstage and dance with a group of people.

One of the guys from the R&B group Blue Magic...can't remember his name - He is an asshole. I told him he couldn't go in a certain area and he told me he could. I told him to wait right here before I call security. I saw his picture in the marquee later, that's how I find out who he was. I went home and looked at my CD...that was him, he had aged. I think he had an attitude because I didn't recognize him. Hell, who cares!

POP stars I've met...

heartJanet Jackson (we talked, she said "Happy Birthday" to me and I KISSED HER -- I WILL NEVER EVER FORGET IT!! She is ultra sweet. Plus, SHE GAVE ME a free "Janet: Live in Hawaii" DVD enclosed with a Thank You card in a handwritten envelope via FedEx! eek That experience justified all my years of being a fan. I'm still tripping off of it!)heart

Meshell Ndegeocello (I interviewed her and met her after a couple of shows.)

Pink (she came to my high school and we briefly chatted -- this 2 months before
she appeared on MTV with "There U Go!")

Kelis (she signed my Wanderland CD, but I wanna forget this encounter -- it was so bad that I discontinued a fan website I made for her... now that's DEEP.)

N*E*R*D (Pharrell is arrogant. Chad & Shay are very cool!)

Talked to Lou Reed on the plane from Amsterdam to NYC

Sat in a ski-lift with Rob Schneider (rockstar?) at a Lake Tahoe ski-resort.

I thought she was really cool when I met her, she was funny down to earth and just talked about nothing, she comes across as a bit nuts, but in a good way she was a bit tipsy and it was a brief encouter maybe about 5 mins she did have way!! too much security (this was at her afterparty for her charmbracelet concert)
Kelis - What a biatch! she must have been having a bad day, but everyone was told not to make eye contact with her, ask for picture and autograph or touch her lol

David Bowie - It was brief but sweet. He was wearing white jeans and a white t-shirt at the Reality tour warm-up in Poughkeepsie. I don't normally ask for autographs but I just had to. I thanked him for all the years of enjoyment he's given me and he thanked me for coming to the show. biggrin

Bjork - I've met her three different times. The first was when she was getting mobbed by like 200 fans outside of the State Theatre in Detroit. But somehow I got stuck in the movement around her. So we just carried on a conversation as we got moved around in this sea of people. She talked about PJ Harvey a lot and how they were sending eachother gifts while on tour cuz they couldn't see eachother enough.

The 2nd time was the most special. I hadn't heard about her tour for Homogenic in the States until after the tickets had gone onsale. So my friend Nikki and I just went to Chicago on a whim, hoping to get in. Everyone who had a ticket was keeping it. Even the scalpers couldn't get any. But fate smiled on us that day when an unscrupulous security guy sold us wristbands for $50 each that would get us in the club. He sold over capacity and there was barely any room to move. But that made it even better. So anyway, after the show it wasn't obvious at all whether she'd come out. I found out there was a freight elevator below the House of Blues where she was waiting for her limo. There were only like 5 other people down there waiting. But it was perfect. I had purchased a crystal flute that I wanted to give to her and I thought this was my best chance. Well sure enough, she came down this huge iron-gated elevator with a fur hat and a boombox. I don't think she expected anyone to be there. But I handed her the box. She looked at it kinda funny and said, "Thank you!" I said, "No, you have to open it." Her eyes got all big. She opened it up and looked just like a kid on Christmas day. "It's a ship!" she said. There was a gilded white and gold ship on the flute and she seemed really surprised and touched.

The 3rd time was after a show on the "Vespertine" tour in Chicago. I didn't expect to see her. We were just walking on the street after the show and she quickly went to her car. Just a quick "Hi Bjork!" this time.

Tricky

He's a fucking trip. The first time I met him I didn't even know who he was. It was before "Maxinquaye" was even released here and he was opening for PJ Harvey. I was in line before the show and he was going up and down the line asking if anybody had any weed. I probably did, but I probably either didn't want to share it with some stranger or thought he was a narc. lol

The 2nd time we got into a fight. I don't even remember what about. But he was talking with me and 2 cops outside about different American cities. He said how much he loved Detroit and Chicago but hated Boston. He was looking for a word for how to describe the people there because he thought they were too elite. I said, "uppity?" He was like "Yeah, that's it." Then he got mad. And I have no idea why. Then we made up and were gonna smoke in my car until his bus driver said they had to go.

The 3rd time my friend Nikki had this kaleidoscope she wanted to give him. We ended up talking to him about Prince for like a half hour. We started going through my cd wallet and he was commenting on different albums. I remember he said he really hates "Diamonds & Pearls" and thought "Don't Play Me" was the best song he'd heard all year. We asked if he had Crystal Ball and The Truth and he said that he didn't, that he'd only heard the song from a friend. So we gave it to him. As soon as he got in his car, he put it in his discman and left.

Tori Amos

I was just a new fan at the time. She was playing at a tiny place on the campus of the University of Michigan. My friends were more into her at the time than I was, but I really loved the show. She played my favorite song by her and a cover of "Purple Rain". I kinda felt like she played them just for me and I thanked her for choosing those 2 songs after the show. Now if you don't know Tori, she's extremely warm and open. She just said, "Oh honey, it was my pleasure. You're such a doll!" Then she just reached out her arms and hugged me. Then she kissed me. And she tasted like buttered popcorn. Yum. Needless to say, I was a much bigger fan after that.

I met Trent Reznor at a bar/club in Frankfurt Germany. It was part of his early Downward Spiral Tour and no germans knew who he was. Come to think of it, I was the only one of my friends who knew who he was. HE was just sitting there at the bar watching Die Krupps (his openning act that night) perform. I walked up to him, chatted fro probably less than 2 minutes, asked for his autograph, got it, then he went backstage and NIN performed within 15 minutes from that time.

Best show I've ever seen, even though half their shit was on tape.
