if you think about it, every time bjork gets attention for wearing some kooky designer's new creation, she's doing a commercial.

B-Jork dissing Boufantce? Madonna did Pepsi YEARS AGO. And if that commercial and it's contents isn't selling your soul to the devil, I don't know what is.

Artists dissing other artists is SO last week.

Well in Icelandic culture being a whore of any type, real, corporate whatever is looked down upon. And when artists like Madonna and Christina Aguilera try to glamorize what they're doing however you spin it, some people just aren't gonna buy it. I don't either. I don't think people should be judged by what they've done in the past or by their tendencies or whatever, but rather by what they're capable of. Seeing yourself off like that is a cheap and easy way of making a lot of extra money. I don't see any integrity in it. I realize that most people could care less about such a word: integrity... but there are still people out there in the world that do.

Without taking sides or sounding harsh, I think the explanation is pretty simple.

Sure, everyone in entertainment uses their image to get ahead. Even if an artist is anti-image like say New Order or somebody, that still becomes a selling point.

But I think the difference is what you're selling. Of course Bjork uses imagery and fashion. Perhaps better than anyone. But she's doing it for the sake of furthering her art. She's selling herself. And that's what artists who go for fame and recognition do, they sell themselves. But that doesn't necessarily mean selling OUT.

When you start selling soda and fast food and cosmetics and deodorant and cars, you run the risk of looking a wee bit fake. I don't always have a problem with it. But I can see how someone as singly motivated as Bjork would.

Bjork isn't saying she hates Beyonce's fashion sense or her choice of eye shadow. I think she's just expressing disappointment in a fellow artist she has a lot of respect for. I don't find this catty or mean-spirited at all. Not even hypocritical. It's a bit strange coming from Bjork. I'm not used to her talking about other celebrities much. But it certainly isn't slander.

Gangsta. I agree completely. Her use of her image (as I see it) has always been in a way an extention of her art (or the art of her friends (fashion designers and the like)). Bjork... much like Prince, has a much stronger distinction of what it means to be an artist and what it means to be an entertainer for corporations whose primary interest is money, not what is being produced. And thats exactly why I can say that I admire both of them. I like many musicians and artists, but I admire only a few.

I love Bjork but dissing artists for doing commercials is played out.

We all know it is quick cash grab and more power to them.

And Moby taught us it is a great way to market your own music.

She knows. But it is not COMMERCIAL. It's art. There is a slight difference between art and pimpin your image, for cash. You know; Beyonce style...

Yeah but she's just marketing her image which in turns promotes awareness of the musical artist, which can sell more "art"(albums).

Oh, that is just a by-product. It is easy to say EVERY known person in the media is a walking commercial. It is just how you use your image.

Beyonce does it the American way, Bjork goes arty-farty. Bjork questioned Beyonce as an artist, probably worries about her.

Qritique in itself does not have to be negative. So. Your pants look awful.

I didn't think this was a diss at all. She sounds like a big fan of Beyonce', but just annoyed at the commercials. It's no different than orgers who are big fans of Prince but complain about every other little thing he does.

I was in a theatre class with Bjork's cousin Jonathan Bjorkman, he said he has only actually seen her a couple of times, and he said she was a little out there, and he said he didn't like her music. But he never said anything bad about her. I don't know any of her music but she does seem a bit out there just from what I have seen of her on music awards shows and the such. Maybe she thinks people here in the US are all weirdos. After all..she is from Iceland so I'm sure anyone from anywhere else is weird to her...

prince never shows up on MTV, but he's argued to have the highest grossing tour of the year.

come to think of it, when do ANY videos get shown on MTV??

I'm thinking that maybe Bjork's point is if I can do it (not go corporate) and I'm doing fine then why can't others? Of course it's not wise to speak for other people but whatever.

If you watch at about 4am. And I think they sometimes still play a minute or two of each video on TRL.
