Chaka Khan on Mary J. Blige I think Harlepolis posted something like this a few months back (or more), but I'll share this with all of you.
-- Mary J Blige is one of Chaka's friends these days (and they're both a couple of my favorites) but that doesn't stop Chaka from saying this: (from a recent interview) Interviewer: Another of your friends is Mary J. Blige. But didn't you once introduce (the Rufus ballad) "Sweet Thing" in concert as "the song Mary J. Blige f*cked up"? Chaka Khan: She did f*ck it up and I told her she f*cked it up. She was flat on it. She didn't seem like she was giving her best. I asked her about it, and she said, "I recorded it at 8 in the morning." And I said, "Don't do anything at 8 in the morning. Don't do anything at 8 in the morning, unless you've been up all night." I was giving her good sound advice from a place of love. And she took it in the right way. She wasn't hatin', and it was beautiful. from: http://atlanta.creativelo...ature.html [Edited 10/22/04 6:42am]

You gotta love Chaka, she always tells it like it is
I recall an interview where she was dissing Whitney for covering "I'm Every Woman".She said "Why can't today's singers find their own material? I did". Of course,Chaka's biggest hit is a cover of a Prince song...lol...

Gotta get her book (it's probably, sadly, in the bargin bins by now).
