Sorry, that's just how I feel. Try getting the instrumental collection, "All Saints' instead. On Low and "Heroes", the instrumental Side 2's are really a shocking contrast to what came before. When you collect them all together, you might apprecitate them more.

it is indeed a great album. but for some reason, i can't always get into it. sometimes i'm really really loving it, and sometimes i get bored halfway through the instrmental passages.
same with Heroes. have never really liked and probably never will like half of Lodger. "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later, every asshole gets one."

blackboab said: i have just got into this album recently having dismissed it a few years ago but how wrong i was...this is a huge grower...amazingly experimental sounding even now, 27 years after it was released, bowie was right at the cutting edge of music at this time, as he was for most of the 70s, and this album is up there with the greats.
Check out "Buddha of Suburbia" and "Outside", if you haven't already. They're natural successors to the "Low/Heroes/Lodger/Scary Monsters" quartet. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Having them collected might make a difference.

But I think it's just as stunning as what came immediately before and after. I think because of the junky, angry sound of it, people don't like it as well. But honestly, I really like every single song on there. And with "Scary Monsters", the only dud is "Scream Like A Baby" and even that I can enjoy.

I'm new to Bowie. Just started listening to his stuff a few months ago. At the moment I only have The Best Of, Heathen and Reality. I really want some of his earlier stuff. What would you recommend???? I'll leave graffiti where you've never been kissed

I'd say start with Hunky Dory, Station to Station and Low. A rather basic singer/songwriter album, one album between electronica, rock, soul and funk and one with very experimental songs and instrumentals and synths.

Start with Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust and work forward. And stop after Scary Monsters until 1993.

Low is the real deal, no question. Always Crashing in the Same Car.... just 100% brilliant in every way.. Unquestionably my favorite Bowie track.
As an album though, Aladdin Sane will always be my favorite Bowie album... just too much history for me and too many great songs. But yeah... Low is right up there.
