how great is 'strangers when we meet'!

hey

I've listened to this track for about 50 times today and ,even though you got to be carefull with this sort of statements, i think it's one of the best love-songs ever. The lyrics are just incredible and that base-line gets me hooked every time. Bowie at his best, no?
It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

hard to decide...The outside version has a darker feeling to it and is a bit better produced, but bowie is better vocaly in the 'buddha' version ... like 'em both

Simply my favourite DB song.
The line "All my violence raining tears upon the sheet" has to be one of the best line on a song I ever listened.

Brilliant song. Wouldn't say it's a love song though - more a weary kiss-off to an ex-lover (some even said it was about Angie Bowie - "cold, tired fingers tapping out your memories" being a reference to the then recent book she'd written about him). I used to prefer the "Buddha of Suburbia" version, but I think the slightly slower, more brooding "Outside" version has the edge.

There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Wow you too? I'm the same, if I ever listen to either of the versions I just have to put it on repeat and listen to it for hours. Definitely one of my own personal favourites of all time, and it's a song you can always sort of associate with your current life situation.

"I'm so thankful that we're strangers when we meet" - Dave, I couldn't have put it any better myself. I'm really, really thankful.

the beginning of the "buddha of suburbia" version reminds me of the steve winwood version of that "gimme some lovin'" song (was it the spencer davis group? hell, i dunno, he was in so many bands...).

i always figured the song was based on characters from the "buddha of suburbia" novel/miniseries.

Such a great song indeed! And it's perfectly placed on Outside as well... just has to be the last song.
Cannot comment on the 'buddha' version unfortunately. the album is really hard to find and I don't want to have the one with the ugly European cover. I'd really love to get my hands on the US version (Bowie sitting on a bed). Quite expensive on eBay unfortunately. Is this one easy to find in the US?

right now it's really hard to find in the US. unfortunately the re-issue of "Buddha" on CD was only made available for like five minutes, then it went out of stock again. i have the original UK version, with the scene from the miniseries on the cover - some fool at an indianapolis best buy priced the album at 8.88 because they thought it was an import CD single...dancing jig
