Great question. I have nothing from Ray either, so some suggestions from those in the know would be great.

Try Ray Charles, The Ultimate Hits collections
its about 2 c.d.s of hits spanning his career its a great starter its a good collection it misses alot of his greater hits though [Edited 10/13/04 11:39am]

I have a very nice single-disc collection from Rhino called "The Very Best Of Ray Charles"(2000) . Im sure that there are better sets out there but it's a great starter... "...all you need ...is justa touch...of mojo hand....."

I would recommend the three disc "Birth of Soul" compilation

Rhino has a 5 cd compilation called "Genius & Soul: The 50th Anniversary Collection" that covers all stages of his career without costing you an arm and a leg.
I think the single cd set mentioned earlier is a more condensed version of the same set, but with Rhino's pricing is should not be too expensive to buy. [Edited 10/13/04 20:05pm]
