R.E.M. - Around The Sun

The new album is getting mixed reviews, what do you think?

I think they got too big for their britches and have been following the trends for a while. I used to like them a lot. I think their music suffered after they got popular. We all know that their biggest wasn't their best.

I have heard the new song. it's ok. more of the same for me.

when a new REM album came out, it used to be an event - a really big deal. i didn't even know their new one had come out until i happened to see it sitting on the shelves at border's today.

I haven't picked it up yet, but I'm sure I will. With all of their recent releases I have been very indifferent for a long period and then they clicked and grew on me. "New Adventures In HiFi" I ignored for a LONG time, but it is now one of my favorite albums. It's not "Murmur" but is' damn good.

I do like the single. But, I only have a radio in my car and it's one of the 10 songs (or so) that radio plays right now that I like....

Course, I'm nowhere near as excited about REM as I used to be. "Around The Sun" is on sale at Best Buy for 9.99 and I still haven't picked it up.

I heard the album twice. Z-Z-Z-Z-Z..... It will be the very first R.E.M. album that I will not purchase. I only bought the last one, REVEAL (which I played once!), because I've been such a big fan for so long and I felt the need to support them (I've done that with many Prince albums in recent years) as stupid as that may sound, but NO MORE. This album sucks! I really wish they'd break up. Ever since Bill Berry's departure the music has gotten progressively worse. They are simply ruining their legacy. Who would have ever thought the drummer was the glue?

i've been hearing and reading a lot of negative buzz on this album. i guess just about every magazine review of this has been really really scathing. maybe it's time for them to split up and michael stipe can fall back on his movie producing??

Same with me. Up may be my favorite R.E.M. album, if only because I totally burned out on Automatic and Monster.

I wasn't impressed with the new one at all at first, but after a few listens, I'm picking up on things I want to hear again. The Q-Tip track is pretty good. Overall, it's their most subdued album.

It sounds like they're copying themselves, only doing a shitty grade-Z job of it.
