i love has to be (which, by the way, was the last track on my version of ray of light)

You must have the Japanese version of the 'Ray Of Light' CD which features "Has To Be" as a bonus track? I always get pissed when artists release a non-US version of an album, with additional tracks. This means that real fans have to shell out even more money just to buy an expensive import version. There are versions of the 'Music' CD that feature two songs that don't appear on the US version---"American Pie" and "Cyberragga".But anyway..."Has To Be" is an okay track, but it's not great and I can certainly see why it was left off the album. It's slow and uneventful, and not nearly as strong as the songs that made the album.

The reason why Japanese albums get extra tracks many times is because CDs cost a whole lot more over there. Labels feel consumers need an extra incentive to buy the product.

"Let Down Your Guard" (B-side to the U.K. single of "Secret" in 1994.Excellent song!)

"Has To Be" (B-side of the "Ray Of Light" single) 1998

Those ones are actually worth finding.

And this reminds me I never did actually purchase Pre-Madonna, but "Ain't No Big Deal" and "Laugh To Keep From Crying" are cool.

OK quick question for you guys...with her longevity and all...does she have really any unreleased music in her "vault". I have a really hard time grasping at this notion, as I have never heard of anything of the sort...nor that it'd be any good. Please enlighten me.

It's just like any other artist, there are at very least alternate versions and demos of everything she has recorded. As one Madonna collector I met put it, "you could never have all of her songs".

She actually releases the best songs though, unlike Prince.

"Ain't No Big Deal" (B-side of "Papa Don't Preach" outside of the U.S.),1986. - Is from the first album or something...I never considered it a b-side as it later (or was it around the same time) it appeared on the outtake thing that came out.

"Ain't No Big Deal" has a long history. It was recorded in the early 80s (1981,I think) and it was one of the four songs that appear on the demo tape that got Madonna signed to Sire Records in 1982.It was originally scheduled to appear on her debut album, but it was replaced by "Holiday".It was later given to some band called Barracuda and it was not until 1986 when fans were finally able to hear Madonna's version on the B-side of "Papa Don't Preach".The demo versions of this song surfaced on the 'Pre-Madonna' and 'In The Beginning' CDs that were released in 1997.

Madonna experts...feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but i think this information is accurate lol

it originally appeared on a very obscure compilation in 1984 called "Revenge Of The Killer Bees" .....

eek

'Pre-Madonna' is a must-have! It's so interesting to hear these early demos and unreleased tracks. As I mentioned above, some of these songs (namely "Don't You Know" and "Ain't No Big Deal") are superb and really should have appeared on her debut album.Btw,Stephen Bray (Madonna's collaborator on these tracks) has hinted that he has some more unreleased stuff from this period,so maybe we will see another compilation soon.

Madonna has ALOT of unreleased songs in her vault.I once did a lengthy thread about her unreleased recordings. If the search engine on this site is working, try to find it.The thread was titled "Madonna's Secret Garden: A Discussion of her unreleased recordings".I've heard some of her unreleased songs, such as the 'Ray Of Light' outtakes...

"Revenge"
"Like A Flower"
"Substitute For Love" (alternate version)"

There's been alot of updated information,so maybe we will have to do a new thread lol

Uhm, am I going mad or did you guys forget that her best b-side ever is

"INTO THE GROOVE" which is the B-side of the "ANGEL" single

I guess because it's such a famous song, people tend to think that it is
from one of her albums, but it is in fact just a b-side!!!

It's a shame the way "Into The Groove" was handled! Everybody knows that song would have been a surefire Number One hit in the summer of 1985,if it had been it's own single (instead of a B-side).

Secret had CD 1 and CD 2 releases all across Europe. Pt. 1 had:

1. Secret (Edit) 4.30
2. Let Down Your Guard (Rough Mix Edit) 4.33
3. Secret (Instrumental) 5.04
4. Secret (LP Version) 5.03

CD2 just had 5 versions of Secret, including some Junior Vasquez mixes (does yours have Junior's Soundfactory Dub?).

I definitely don't have Part 1.... I'll have to look when I get home... I want to say it had between 4 and 5 remixes of the song... i don't recall the single being a "part 2," but I have been wrong before.... A friend of mine had the single with the tracklist you mention above, and I would have sworn it was from Japan.... TO BE CONTINUED....

oh... and thnx for settling a 10 year mystery to me smile

Not that anyone cares, but I have the "Pt. 2" of the Secret single... Remixes only...

Every fuckin single of "Secret" I ever saw (including my cassingle) had the edit and the instrumental. I still haven't been able to buy "Let Down Your Guard".

I totally feel ya CinisterCee! I love that song... and i only have a copy of it... and i have everything on official cd from her... At least we now know that it was released on the regular "part 1" import single... I truthfully would have put money on the fact that the song doesn't appear on the "part 1," but all these people seem to agree that it exists...
