Well let's see...

Seeing as I used to play the trumpet, I guess I would have to say when it came to influences it would've been first and formostWynton Marsalis. I remember being captivated by the sound when my dad brought home this album...

Secondly, it would've been Miles Davis & Roy Hargrove

Now, considering that I no longer play and have always sung, vocally my influences have been...

The one and only Stevie Wonder. As I've stated numerous times before, Journey Through The Secret Life of Plants was the first album I remember being captivated by learning the whole thing backwards and forwards...so much my family had to hide the album from me. lol

Secondly, my other influences would be Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin, Prince, Al Green, Rance Allen and The Clark Sisters.

Being a multi instrumentalist, I'm influenced by Prince in that regard. As a lyric writer, Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes), Ani DiFranco, and Elvis Costello, Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum. Musically, I'm influenced by punk and indie rock bands like the pixies as well as some poppier acts like Matthew Sweet. Mainly though it's other local musicians just trying to one up each other!

I've always loved music, always made up tunes when I was little. Lots of my friends had pianos in their homes and took piano lessons. I never got any, but I LOVED listening to them play. I couldn't tell you the composers... all I know is that one of my friends would play the Blue Danube and some Scott Joplin and I would love to watch his hands.

I always loved art assingments in elementary school. I also remember some poetry assignments. When I was 14 I discovered Duran Duran and decided I wanted to be creative with music.

So here is my list:

Nick Rhodes (Duran Duran/Arcadia Keyboard/Synthesist)
Simon LeBon (Duran Duran/Arcadia Vocalist/Lyricist)
Sting
Tori Amos
Bjork
Terrance Trent Darby
The Doors
Madonna
Prince
Living Colour
Sheila E
Sade
Vivaldi
Elliot Goldenthal
Alanis
Nirvana
Nine Inch Nails
Ruby
Deee-Lite
Depeche Mode
Steve Vai
Jai Uttal

And many more!

I've always wanted to play piano like Richard Smallwood or Twinkie Clark, guitar like Prince, bass like Bootsy Collins or Cordell "Boogie" Mosson and drums like Sheila E. but I'm thankful with what God has blessed me with what to work with. thumbs up!
