Amel Larrieux

I've been watching Midnight Love on BET lately just to hear and see this Amel Larrieux song, "For Real". I'm lovin' this artist and while looking for her album, I came across another one. Has anyone else heard anything else from her? Any opinions on Ms. Larrieux?

Wow, I'm listening to it right now after finally making the purchase.

For Real is a winner and so is the title track, Bravebird. There are some interesting rhythms and vocal arrangements and I found I was totally surprised at how different it sounded in my car than it did coming through my headphones. There are just backing vocals and beats I didn't pick up on the first few listens.

I think her first album, Infinite Possibilities, was a little more mellow and reminiscent of Groove Theory. They're both good but I prefer Bravebird.

Oh yeah and I can't forget her contribution to Sweetback--Gaze and of course, You Will Rise.

biggrin Exactly!! Mellow, Jazzy and Funky...I really loved her with Groove Theory and the Sweetback sessions , and I really liked Infinite Possibilities...Bravebird will have to grow on me a little, though...

It's grown on me. But i've always liked her anyway. Pretty good album.

If you liked Infinite Possibilities or Bravebird, I recommend:

Mondo Grosso - Now You Know Better (feat. Amel Larrieux)
Soulive - I Don't Know (feat. Amel Larrieux)
Guru - Guidance (feat. Amel Larrieux) also check out the entire "Jazzmatazz III: Street Soul" LP (2000), it has some great tracks with Macy Gray, Les Nubians, Angie Stone, Kelis, Bilal, Erykah Badu, etc.
The Roots - Glitches (feat. Amel Larrieux)
