Huey Lewis Now: Is It Indeed "Hip 2 B Square"? So I remember when I was a kid in high school, among my group of outcast hipster geek friends, the most UNcool thing a person could listen to was Huey Lewis & the News. They were just the grossest, the grodiest, the modiest, the most embarrassing thing you could be caught listening to at any given time. They were what the jocks and young republicans listened to - Huey Lewis sang about SPORTS, for chrissakes! And, I mean, so did John Fogerty, but at least he LOOKED dirty.
So now, 20-25 years later, how has Huey Lewis evolved? Is he like kitschy-retro-cool like the Bee Gees were in the '80s? Is he still gross and uncool and something only dads listen to while washing cars and barbecuing wieners? Has Mr. Lewis' credo indeed come to pass...here, there and everywhere - is it, in fact, hip 2 b square?! I'm just askin' is all.

You know what, as far as hit-making pop bands go these guys are alright with me.
They played their own instruments, sounded good live and supposedly had a song ripped off. That's gotta count for something. Sure Huey looks like he should be selling you insurance or trying to recruit you for Amway but so what. Small World is probably the most adventurous release, TOP horns and all. (as adventurous as you could get and still be Huey Lewis that is.)
Nothing heavy, just a fun record. There, I said it. Where's the rest of you "unhip to be square" chickens? tA Tribal Disorder

I'll admit liked Huey Lewis back when I was a teenager in the 80s and I still enjoy those old songs.
Huey did always look so cleancut and square and all, which is why I still remember the day, when I was about 16 or 17 and was at the public library, I saw that there was an interview with him in the most recent issue of Rolling Stone. I didn't know anything about him so I figured I'd read it. I was very shocked at the article! As for Huey Lewis and the News' music, it's fun. It brings back good memories for me.
