Bad Brains is cool band. You haven't heard much about them b/c they are a kinda underground and not mainstream group.

Bad Brains are one of my favorite bands. headbang They were an awesome combination of hardcore and reggae. The band started out in 1977 as a jazz/funk group, and then they decided to experiment with a much harder and faster sound. They have stated that they were influenced by The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Led Zeppelin, and of course Bob Marley. Ric Ocasek of The Cars produced one of their albums "Rock for Light", in 1983. Bands such as Fishbone, Living Colour, the Beastie Boys, 24/7 Spyz, Dave Grohl, and even Metallica have all named Bad Brains as an influence on their own sound and style.

Some of my favorite songs are.....

Sailin' On
Big Takeover
Pay to Cum
F.V.K.
How Low Can a Punk Get?
Rock for Light
The Meek
I
Coptic Times
and many more.....

I was late to this band and they ROCK.

I couldn't listen to them without thinking what a hack ripoff job Living Colour did. I mean Living Colour didn't change much when they came up with their own music.

Yeah, I didn't hear Living Color until much later, and I always had that same thing happen to me when I heard them. Not that I don't like Living Color, but the Bad Brains influence is very apparent. Although, Living Color has also stated that they were very influenced by Zeppelin, and wanted that heavy sound that they had, hence their more hard rock sound rather than punk like Bad Brains.

Bad Brains kick ass....I've been a long time fan....From what I have heard, they are coming out with a new album and it's being produced by Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys. I don't know how soon but I heard this quite a while ago....

Oh, I forgot those. headbang

Do your pics have an URL address? They must have one (you know, the address that begins with http://....etc.). They'll have one if they're from any website, and then you just right-mouse click on the pic you want and select "properties". Then the URL will show up. Just copy and paste that into your response. Now highlight the URL in your reply post, and then hit the Img button that's provided above. It will automatically enclose the URL address with the images brackets.

So,

Hope that helps. biggrin

Yeah, U should have been with me in thr Black Rock Coalition back in 89-92. My band at the time, Amalgam was tearing shit up! There is a video of this whole scene floatin' around out in L.A. They used to show it on cable all the time. But about the thread, yeah Bad Brains is no joke! Saw them at The Whiskey. They fucked it up!

Yeah Dr Know, the guitarist, was playing in Black Jack Johnson with Doug Wimbish (from Living Colour) on bass, Mos Def on vocals, and I can't remember who was on drums...it might have been Will Calhoun from Living Colour but I could be wrong on that....I don't know what happened with the planned album.

Yeah, I know what you mean Phil G. I got a lot about 5 live shows on tape of the Brains and it's something everyone should experience.....If anyone wants to find cool/live/rare Bad Brains performances just check on Ebay for dvd's and vhs tapes cuz I've found a bunch of cool, rare stuff on there, including a performance from CBGB's in '79 (I believe) where HR and the boys don't even have dreads yet...Really good shit.

Finally a thread about a real band!!! I've been knowing this guys since they first started. Own all their recordings(and yes many bootlegs as well). First saw them perform at a place in Trenton N.J. called "City Gardens" many years ago. Got to meet the whole band. I guess they were just thrilled to see another black face. Gary(Dr. Know) and I shared riffs upstairs in the dressing room on his metalic gold Les Paul. Wow I will always remember that night! Been keeping track of them ever since. I must admit HR is not the same anymore. He has no passion anymore(think he needs to get his life in order). But this is one band I would not want to open for, nor follow behind either. They are vicious!!!

Hey Minneapolisgenius, word of caution though, after a diet of bands like "Bad Brains", you won't have the stomach for listening to less talented artist. You just might get to the point where I am at, not listening to the radio at all!

lol I haven't listened to the radio in years. Seriously though. The only time I ever did was when I was in the car driving, but I don't drive anymore so that's out. I catch some recent videos from time to time on VH1, but generally I am completely in the dark about most bands these days.
