Erykah Badu: Time's A Wastin'

I love Erykah so much for writing this. Such an encouraging, positive, motivational piece of art. I wanna move mountains every time I hear this song. How does it make you feel?

Time's a wastin
Don't you take your time young man
Keep on driftin and
Ain't no tellin where you'll land

Run baby, run, run
Where you runnin to?
And who you runnin from?
Some people may not understand
What it means to be a man
Takin' full command
Cause we're

Livin in a world that's oh so strange
Boy don't let your focus change
Takin out the demons in your range, hey
Livin in a world that's oh so fast
Gotta make your money last
Learn from the past, oh

Time's a wastin
Don't you take your time young man
Keep on driftin and
Ain't no tellin where you'll land

Sweet love and sunshine
If it's all in the air
Then it's all on your mind
Breathe baby
Come back to the world
Dig up all your pearls
Teach the boys and girls, hey

Livin in a world that's oh so strange
Boy don't let your focus change
Takin out the demons in your range, hey
Livin in a world that's oh so fast
Gotta make your money last
Learn from the past, oh

Oh baby we need to smile
Oh baby we need to smile
Oh baby we need to smile
Oh baby we need to smile

Time's a wastin
Don't you take your time young man
Keep on driftin and
Ain't no tellin where you'll land

Oh baby we need to smile
Oh baby we need to smile
Oh baby we need to smile
Oh baby we need to smile

Oh, oh, oh, oh...

Time's a wastin
Don't you take your time young man
Keep on driftin and
Ain't no tellin where you'll land

If I ever meet her, I'll have to give her a huge hug and thank her for writing such a gem. This song reminds me to never lose track of my goals in life. Keep moving forward, and everything will be o.k. In the words of Larry the Cable Guy: GIT 'R DONE!

I met her at THe Okayplayer Tour (THe Roots, Slum VIllage, Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, Jazzyfatnastees, Common, Badu, and Bahamadia) in ATL back in 2000. Very nice in person and quite short (even shorter than prince )

I really think that Mamas Gun is her best album.

Not that its important but I read somewhere that she's 5'9(as tall as Whitney & Mariah) and the brotha is 5'2. Oh no she's def not shorter than him, you must be a building tho lol

I love that song, hell I alove the whole album. Stripped down production-wise but pretty expressive.

There certainly was a "feeling" presented on that album that's very noticeable. nod

I agree wholeheartedly. I think Mama's Gun was the best album released in 2000. The artistic growth she showed between her first studio album and Mama's Gun was astonishing. Green Eyes, Kiss me On My Neck (Hesi), Didn't Cha Know, In Love With You and Penitentiary Philosophy are classic tracks on a damn near perfect album.

Might've been her breakup with Common. I didn't care for that album at first, but finally I've warmed up to it, well after seeing her do those tracks live made me appreciate them a lot more! If you haven't seen Erykah live make sure you check her next time she comes around! Her live sets are Ill! I've seen her 4 times and haven't been disappointed yet! SHIT the last time I seen her she was about 7 months pregnant and the was the best show I ever seen her do! lol
