When is this going to be on CBS!

The original plan was for the show to air on Thanksgiving night (November 25),but there are some rumors that this date might be changed. We'll have to wait for an official announcement. But I do know that the recent Lisbon show is the one that was taped for the TV special. In any case,it won't be long before we get the DVD.

Have a great time!!!! I'm in complete agreement that it's her best tour. I had heard mixed reviews, so I kept waiting to be disappointed, and instead kept getting blown away. I like Prince a lot better than I like Madonna, but I MUCH preferred Re-Invention to Musicology.

Better than Musicology!!!! Well I guess that make sense if you like spectacles... Put that woman on a stripped down stage like the Musicology stage where she would carry on a 3 hour plus show on just pure talent as a performer alone minus all that bullshit. Please!!! Ain't going to happen, won't going to happen, never going to happen.....

The moral of the story is performers like Prince (for example) can do it on just the music and pure jammin!!! No 50 dancers....No broadway spectacles and overhead so damn high you have to pay $300.00 freaking dollars!!!!

rolleyes

Madonna has said repeatedly that she's not interested in doing a "normal" concert. It's just not her style. She likes for her shows to be dramatic, theatrical, provocative, and Broadway-ish.Her shows are meant to be spectacles ("an assault on the senses" is how she describes her current tour).Madonna is a very extreme, controversial artist and her concerts reflect that.Understatement is not her style.Yes,Prince's shows are more focused on "musicianship" but Madonna is not Prince,so she shouldn't be expected to do what he does (and vice versa).Let's stop all these stupid comparisons.

I was not making any comparisons to Prince, that is completely adsurd. I was giving a example as to how limited she is as a live performer.... Of course she is not interested in doing a "normal" concert or it is not her style because she would not be that good at it. That's why!!!

It's all a matter of opinion. You think she's a weak live performer and her fans disagree. The important thing is that she has millions of fans around the world who are enjoying her concerts. At the end of the day, that's all that matters, right?

Exactly, Prince is good at doing his thing and Madonna is good at doing her thing. Why do you post such pointless shit. There are many people on these boards who hate Madonna but don't try to make stupid arguments.

Which brings up an interesting point....how come i never see you in the Prince:Music and More forum, discussing your hero? It seems that you spend more time on the Madonna threads.Hmmm....

Before you read my review you need to know TWO things; first is that I am not a BIG Madonna fan. I admire her inmensely, own the SEX book and some of her albums, of which I like Like A Prayer and Ray Of Light the best. I freakin ADORE Ray Of Light so much I could not help being disappointed about where her music went after.

The second thing you should know is that I am a nitpicker. I watch live performances and cannot help but pick up on things. You will not hear me rave about a show just cuz it is Madonna.

The Madonna show was in the Gelredome, a soccerstadium in the east of Holland. That is no problem NORMALLY, unles the trip that should take 1 and a half hour takes FOUR hours because of trafficjams.. I was afraid of missing the start, but it seemed the organisation was aware of this and the the show started 45 minutes later than planned, to give everybody a chance to reach the stadium.

Then, at nine, the show started. The show started with The Beast Within recording backed up by the video screens that would play a big part of the show.
The crowd was responsive, more so than any Prince show I attended since 1990... just having Madonna there was allright! The show roughly consisted of a nice mix of thritysomething gay guys and 30-sumthing housewives in 80's clothing, hehehe, mixed with somewhat younger public, mostly girls.

Vogue was the opener. To me it looked like Madonna dubbed the first three songs, but I might be mistaken... The sound was a bit hollow, but okay during the first half of the show.

Madonna ran us through a first set with mostly hits and lots of dancing. I loved her energy, her looks. The re-arrangements of MOST her songs were fun, esp Deeper & Deeper.

After this the sound seemed to collapse and became drizzle. That is where the show stopped being fun; the show started lacking momentum and to me could not recapture the fun of the first part. The other ballads just made the show static.

Then came Imagine...the song was probably meant to be honest and heartfelt, but it is was a TAT too much with all the poor people on the video screen. Best part of that was people responding by singing along and giving me goosebumps all over whne John Lennon's pic came onscreen. The crowd roared it's approval and that made me think the world ain't THAT a bad place...

The show closed with Holiday, but this strange beat tried to drown out Madonna's singing and it seemed like there were two songs playing, out of tune as well.

And then no encore! I say; hmm it felt kind of formulic and "this is the show we rehearsed so take or leave it". Like I said'most people were okay with this; they seemed to think MADONNAMADONNAMADONNA! and it was alright to them.

Slight recap; first half of show was GREAT. Then with the sound, the momentum collapsed and madonna could not recapture it for ME. Big highlights were Frozen, Deeper and Deeper and and Express Yourself. Missers were Holiday, Imagine and alas Like A Prayer that seemed to be driven by the video screens instead of Madonna herself.

Props to the people who designed the video background. Looked great, but at some point they overtook the PERFORMANCE part. On other points, they were great; like the costume change interludes.

So, it was a dual performance to me; I got to see one of the people on my TO-DO list, ehhehe.but she could only convince a part of me. I would have loved to see more of Madonna that tried to come out during the Ray Of Light period; more personal. I am sure this show is best when glued to the stage or on DVD.

The show was big, the hall was big and the response humongous, but I just want that woman in a small place, with a back up band and NO dancers, heheh. Even though some of them are, well, Gooey will be Gooey, rather nice to look at.

In my opinion, the weakest part of the show was the last two songs "Music" and "Holiday".These two songs were already used to close the last tour,so this time around,Maddy should have done something different.I'm one of the few fans who thinks that "Holiday" should be retired from her tours. She's been doing that song on every tour since 1985! My other gripe is that the show could have been a little longer. She should have added at least three more songs---"Like A Virgin","Live To Tell" and "Cherish" (which could have really worked during the jazzy portion, maybe right after "Deeper And Deeper"?).And if she had decided against using the songs "Music" and "Holiday" as the finale, she could have closed the show with something like "Dress You Up" and "Ray Of Light" instead.

lol I'm just nit-picking here, but it was still a wonderful show

Interesting and Honest response, Gooey. It sounds like we left with the same impression of the show although it seems like we had some opposite 'favorite' moments.

For example, I thought the show was at it's strongest during "Nobody Knows Me." I know she was barely singing (if it all) but the simplicity of her on stage with the lyrics punding the crowd just worked for me. On the opposite side. The absolutlely dreadful, almost blasphemous arrangement of "Deeper and Deeper" was the moment I began losing interest in the show.

As a whole, I was glad I went and had an okay time. But, I was honestly ready for the show to end so we could get to the bar for some dancing.

I am totally excited to see the show again on tv/dvd to try and figure out just WHY I was so disinterested this time around....

Anywho, good post! And yes, the dancers were verrrrry nice smile

lol

I know I'm in the minority there. In my defense, "Deeper and Deeper" has always been a favorite of mine. Possibly had I heard it live before in a more traditional arrangement, I'd have been open to the way she performed it this time around. Alas, that was not the case. My ass wanted to DANCE and that biaaatch wouldn't give it up! wink

I didn't warm to the arrangment of Deeper and Deeper either but my boy loved it. He is obviously subjected to long hours of Madonna so did know the original version. I think the reason it didn't sit well with me is because I love the song as a dance track.

I thought the seventies disco version she did on The Girlie Show Tour was much better.

Interestingly, one of my T-shirts is actually from the "Girlie Show" period. On the front,it has a huge picture of Madonna wearing a captain's hat.On the back,it says "Everybody Is A Star".I was amazed that many of the T-shirts being sold on this tour are actually from past tours/eras.

Yay! I've got that one too! It is looking slightly grey and holey now having been worn to death. I would never throw it away though.

I got the Marie Antoinette shirt in black this time and the red True Blue t shirt which I adore! I only wish I could wear them to the office. smile
