All this Duran Duran revial love is turning me into a 12 year old teenybopper all over again. I honestly didn't think this reunion would happen. It was more like distant wishful thinking. I never heard about Andy (who's my fave) wanted to sue the band over his contributions on Notorious. Was that ever brought up on Behind the Music? I finally watched the video this morning. Roger looks the best I've seen him so far since the reunion. I didn't care for Nick in the spaceship, more like a bubble to me, but that's minor. Seeing them playing in the video makes me smile.

Since Nick and Simon are my faves, I've always been nuts for Duran Duran. Watch the word teenybopper though, it has boy-band connotations now... Duran Duran have always composed their music and played their instruments, they have always been about creativity and this is very much lacking in the "teenybopper" bands of today for the most part. Lots of people still have the idea that Duran are just pretty boys, but really, could they last 25 years if they were just that? No.

I don't think the lawsuit thing was brought up in Behind the Music. They talk about it in "3 to Get Ready" a documentary about their Notorious tour. Oooooh, check this out. I found this Duran Duran timeline: http://www.durandurantime.../1986.html Do control-F and find all posts about Andy. You'll notice he was trying to ditch Duran Duran, and in June it says "Duran threatens legal action against Andy, trying to get him in studio; Andy countersues".

I only tossed out "teenybopper" only to identify with the age back then, and the joyful glee like a teenager; not the type of music they made. I totally agree with you that what they did does not fit todays label. Hmmm...I'm definitely going to check out the timeline link. Thanks!

I know girl, it's all good! biggrin We're young at heart, how about that? I just hate it when non-fans have that assumption about a band that inspired me to create music. That just burns me up!

actually Duran Duran is an amazing band when you consider they started out a heart throb boy band.. i was 15 when they were at their height of popularity and i remember that most of the teenage males disliked them because girls were so into them sorta like the girls were with Nsync and the Backstreet Boys.. now those same guys who dismissed them have become big fans (such as myself) its very rare in music that a group elvolves from a teenybop heart throb band to a respected band.. but thats what Duran Duran did and i find that quite an acheivement
Check it out ...Shiny Toy Guns R gonna blowup VERY soon and bring melody back to music..you heard it here 1st! http://www.myspacecomment...theone.mp3

Hey, Duran just happened to be good looking. They have ALWAYS created great music. Listen to their first album and tell me they were just heart throbs... I don't think so. They were a band, period. They each wrote their own parts on their respective instruments. They were not put together by a record or management company to capitalize on their good looks. Sure, they were into fashion, but it was SECONDARY to their music. Always.

Oh you are so right. When I think back to when I first started digging DD, it congures up good memories. After seeing the video, I must say they still look pretty damn good and haven't change much. It feels like yesterday when I used to hang thier poster on my wall alongside
MJ, David Lee Roth and prince.

thumbs up!

DD in my opinion have some of the best songwriting out there! First album and RIO album are prime examples! YOu wouldn't hear that stuff on an N Sync or BSB album...

I REST MY CASE!!! Well spoken!!! biggrin

Vina i didnt say they werent talented...they are one of my all time favorite bands..all i was saying that its amazing that once they were thought of a teen beat band and now have become respected artists and the people that once may have teased them (teenage boys) are now fans of theirs..that just doesnt happen everyday...the only ones i can think of besides Duran Duran that made the crossover are the Beatles & George Micheal

Oh, ok. giggle Sorry, I get carried away when it comes to Duran Duran sometimes. Believe it or not, there are still people nowadays who dismiss Duran as a boy band with no creativity and just looks. I love them sooooo much!

I WILL say this...when people ask me about why I love DD so much I say "they were my 'nSync' back in the 80s"...but I'm comparing the excitement I felt when I saw them on MTV or in concert or when I bought BOP and Teen Beat! I was a screaming 9 year old with my parents at their show in 1984...exactly what you heard about N sync shows...I didn't appreciate their songwriting until I was well into my teens and (and andy and roger were long gone!) and understood a lot of the underlying meanings. but as I've said and others in this thread--you can't compare the two groups...but I think it's safe to say you can find a comparison in the fans they both had at their peak. just a ramble...
