Stevie Wonder questions...

Can anybody tell me about these five songs, which I can't seem to see on any album tracklisting of his:

Until You Come Back To Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)

Free

Feeding Off The Love Of The Land

I'm Wondering

Stay Gold

Where are they from, who wrote them, are they good, what year, etc.????

With the exception of Free, which is from Characters, i don't think any of those songs belong to one of his albums. Stay gold was originally written for the soundtrack for a movie called the Outsiders and can also be found on the Natural Wonder live album (it was also covered by the Isley brothers). I'm wondering and Until You Come Back To me are available on the box set "At the close of a century", otherwise I don't know where they're from. Living off the Love of the Land was only released as part of a compilation of unreleased material by various artists put together by motown I think.

Oh yeah, btw, they were all written or co-written by Stevie and they're all good, except I haven't heard feeding off the love of the land.

jacktheimprovedent - you beat me to it!

Okay, I'm in work so I can't check the finer points (I'm sure okaypimpn will help us out wink ) but here goes:

* Until You Come Back To Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do) - as jack mentioned, this can be found on the 'At The Close Of A Century' 4cd box-set (which is a must-have - beautifully packaged and a great selection of tracks). It can also be found on a compiliation called 'The Love Songs Of Stevie Wonder' (?) but it may be out of print, now. Wonderful song, by the way - a swooning, ballad - very Motown. I think it was originally released in 1967???

* Free - can be found on 1987's 'Characters'. One of the better tracks from one of Stevie's poorest albums, IMO. An up tempo track featuring a gospel choir, this was also released as a single.

* Feeding Off The Love Of The Land - I'm gonna let okaypimpn tell you everything about this track but - trust me - one of Stevie's most AMAZING, rarest songs. Everyone needs to hear this! It's a piano-based ballad; very 'One Nite Alone'-ish. (If I remember correctly, Stevie recorded this during the 'Talking Book' sessions and kept it unreleased for years! I'm not familiar with the Benefit album jacktheimprovident refers to but I think it also appeared as the B-side to either 'Jungle Fever' or 'Fun Day. A waste of such a beautiful composition!). Track this down, if you can; you won't be disappointed...

* I'm Wondering - can also be found on the 'At The Close Of A Century' box-set. Originally released on 'The Jazz Soul Of Little Stevie' (1962).

* Stay Gold - this is available on the 2-cd version of 'Song Review', a Best Of released in 1996. As jacktheimprovident pointed out, it was originally on 'The Outsiders' soundtrack. A sweet, Stevie ballad.

Anyway, I hope this helps. Apologies for the sketchy info but I'm sure someone else can fill in the details...

biggrin Yup...although 'Until You Come Back to Me (That's What I'm Going to Do)' was originally recorded by Wonder in 1967, it wasn't released in the US until it was included on his 1976 three-record greatest-hits set 'Anthology'.(I think it was realeased in the UK as a b-side)...

You're right on point onenitealone! thumbs up!

"Feeding Off The Love Of The Land" was actually recorded during the Fulfillingness' First Finale sessions, but later released as the b-side to "Gotta Have You" from the Jungle Fever soundtrack. Like onenitealone mentioned, it's a really beautiful track (if you like "You and I," "Too Shy To Say" or "They Won't Go When I Go" then you'll love this song...one my favorites!). Just Stevie and his piano. music

I know it from the end credits sequence in Jungle Fever where it had received the Terence Blanchard treatment, complete with orchestral arrangement.
