Seven billion jazz albums recorded since the 60s.

I think I know what you mean & I agree. Birth of the Cool might sound dated because it was cutting edge at the time, but later jazz in this style (say, Winton Marsalis) might not sound dated, because it is removed from the timeline of the evolution of music.

In the same way, retro bands like The Black Crows or Lenny Kravitz might not sound dated because they are not representative of their times. They might be dated to "1970 or later" but it might be hard to pin them down to a specific time, as opposed to a specific style.

Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon.

nod Man, I've been wearing this album out all week. I had not listened to it for about two years, and it's just amazing.

Although, I wouldn't go so far to say that it doesn't sound "dated". It definitely has a unique 70s sound. Not that that's a bad thing. biggrin

Neither is Pink Floyd for that matter edit biggrin

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac.
Parallel Lines by Blondie
Inner Visions by Stevie Wonder.

I don't think these records have dated at all.

I've heard about it, but I've never watched/listened to them simultaneously. You?

There are MPEGs out there on the internet. It's very convincing.

Hate Pink Floyd and the whole album except for 'Breathe' though.

Eurythmics : 1984 eveything besides sexcrime is pretty timeless.

How about Thriller? I have never tired of that one. Still good to this day.

The Creatures Boomerang DEFINITELY. Actually Feast Holds up pretty well. nod

thriller the song and wanna be startin somethin are a bit dated. other than that it's sounds all nice. i think Dangerous is going to remeain fresh. The albums is still going strong after 13 years. HIStory is nice too but there's still time to decide on that one.

omfg I LOVE this album. I can listen to it over and over again for some reason. What do you hate about this album? I mean, IMO "Any Colour You Like" for example, is brilliant.

I'll give MJ the benefit and say Thriller will be timeless. It still sounds fresh today, and has some of the greatest songs on it.

I can't imagine any of Michael's stuff lasting, not Dangerous, definately not HIStory and god Invincible already sounds dead and it's only 3 years old.

And Madonna's Erotica sounds great after 12 years.

Thriller definately will be remembered.

As for the other--nope. Dangerous was really NOT any good. Michael's a lover--not a fighter.

Thriller is great, but dangerous has more diversity and more musical styles are tried.maybe Billie Jean sounds greater than anything on Dangerous but dangerous got more good songs than thriller does. what about Jam,in the closet, who is it,give in to me,will you be there? nothing on thriller can compete with those except billie j.

even off the wall sounds fresher than thriller.

I disagree, dude. I thought "Little Creatures" was a better example of a great pop record than "Remain in Light". RIL is too out there for your average person's tastes.

I've nearly had fist fights with friends because they've put music on in my prescence which makes me feel physically ill. Pink Floyd is one of those bands which starts my teeth grinding.

It's ponderous pretentious post-hippy-dippy bollocks.

We all love Dangerous, but there's no way i can imagine that thing sounding as new as Thriller.

And Off the Wall contains many disco cuts, and as we know disco is dead, therefore it cannot sound fresh now in days.

I agree, Dangerous sounds dated (only the new jack cuts though). HIStory still hasn't dated IMO.

But dated doesn't mean shit to me. Who cares? I still love 50's rock 'n' roll for god's sake lol

True, which is why i don't like this topic because not sounding dated and a good album are 2 different levels for me.

JDINTERACTIVE

Primal Scream-Screamadelica

They say it takes talent, luck, and hard graft to achieve great, timeless album. Screamadelica is proof that you just need the love.

Bobby Gillespie loves music. He's possessed by the sounds of Phil Spector and Lee Perry, the spirit of Lemmy and Lennon and Arthur Lee's Love. He worships in the church of Aretha and exorcises demons last seen possessing Keith Richards and Keith Moon. He can barely play an instrument. His voice has absolutely no range. But Screamadelica's magic is Bobby's. It's all in the love.

Screamadelica is all over the place. 'Movin' On Up' and "Damaged" are pure Rolling Stones, 'Inner Flight' and 'Shine Like Stars' Wilsonian symphonies to God, 'Higher Than the Sun' and 'I'm Coming Down' like nothing on earth. If that's not enough, there's dub reggae and an electrified cover of a 13th Floor Elevators song that'll spin your head. Yet it's all strikingly cohesive, thanks to a miraculous song sequencing seemingly designed to recreate the peaks and valleys of an E trip.

Screamadelica was symbolic of a new counterculture, a new sound conspiring to change everything. And like all perfect pop moments, Screamadelica is both of its time and timeless.
