Speak of Dolly Fans!

There's gotta be at least a few here, but I was hesitant to post here since many a non-R&B thread tend to dip right to the bottom of the list. I cannot let that happen to Dolly! smile She's been one of my favorites since I was an itty bitty bumpkin growin' up in Norf Cakalaka and stands alongside Prince as my favorite composer of popular tunes. She's written more than 1,000 songs. The woman has got to be one of the wealthiest performers in the biz.

She really was in her hey day in the 70s and took a lot of heat from the press and country fans for her pop-tinged tunes in the 80s. I really enjoyed some of those poppy ones, but I was glad to see her return to roots music in recent years. Halos and Horns, I think, is one of the better albums to come out in recent years. Some of her best songs:

Coat of Many Colors
Jolene
(these two are my favorites)
I Will Always Love You (the 70s version, though the Best Little Whorehouse... recording was good as well)
The Bargain Store
But You Know I Love You
Baby I'm Burnin'
It's All Wrong But It's All Right
We Used To
Just Because I'm a Woman
Love Is Like a Butterfly
My Tennessee Mountain Home
Little Sparrow
Not for Me
Light of a Clear Blue Morning

There's gotta be at least one more fan here...anyone? wink

I love Dolly! I grew up listening to her music and prolly new the words to all of her classic songs by the time I was 6. I really enjoyed her recent blue grass phase. I haven't heard Halos and Horns yet, though. I should pick that up.

I have many favorite Dolly songs, but my ALL time favorite is "Here You Come Again."

Here you come again
Just when I’m about to make it work without you
You waltz right in the door
Just like you done before
And wrap my heart ’round your little finger
Here you come again
Just when I’m about to make it work without you
You look into my eyes
And light those dreamy eyes
And pretty soon I’m wonderin’
How I came to doubt you
All you gotta do
Is smile that smile
And there go all my defenses
Just leave it up to you
And in a little while
You’re messin’ up my mind
An’ fillin’ up my senses

Here you come again
Lookin’ better than a body
Has a right to
An’ shakin’ me up so
That all I really know
Is here you come again
An’ here I go

All you gotta do
Is smile that smile
And there go all my defenses
Just leave it up to you
And in a little while
You’re messin’ up my mind
An’ fillin’ up my senses

Here you come again
Lookin’ better than a body
Has a right to
An’ shakin’ me up so
That all I really know
Is here you come again
An’ here I go

Fade:

Here I go
An’ here I go
An’ here I go
Here you come again
An’ here I go
Here I go
An’ here I go

I love the whole song, but my ABSOLUTE favorite part is "Here you come again, lookin better than a body has a right to..." Freakin great lyrics!

woot! YAAAY DOLLY! woot!

i'll always remmeber her letterman appearance, where she taught the world how to play your fingernails like an instrument. Classy lady!
"Pedro offers you his protection."

I liked that one back in the days, I think I even have the Soundtrack album somewhere in the box lol but actually I don't know much more about Dolly than "9 to 5" and "I will always love you" neutral
Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

How could I forget that one? Another of my favorites! And yes, great lyric choice there. I first heard it on this album:

My brothers and I still refer to it as the "bathroom album cover"

I knew it was some astronomical amount in the 1,000s. Just kept it low to be on the safe side wink

Yep. It's the same thing that plagues certain artists with certain audiences: they can't (or refuse to) get past the image to actually listen to the work. Dolly's rack gets in the way for them, unfortunately.

That said, I rarely tire of her own jokes about them. On Oprah a few months back, she rightly referred to them as her "weapons of mass distraction." lol

Did you all know that Dolly has her own amusement park called "Dollywood"? I think it's in Tennessee. I didn't know it either, until I happened to be watching cable one night (forget which channel), and they were talking about it. They showed Dolly's dressing room (very nice) as well as footage of the park. Looks like a cool place to go, if amusement parks are your thing. smile
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I can't stand country music but I do like some of Dolly's songs and I enjoy all her movies also. My favorite Dolly songs are:

Baby I'm Burnin'
Two Doors Down
9 to 5

If anyone I know sees this.....my reputation will be ruined. LOL lol

I really don't get down with Country music, but I did enjoy "The Dolly Parton Show" back in the day. She always closed the show with "I Will Always Love You."
