Since he pissed the masses off with Riot is it safe to put him on the pass revoked list? hmmm

I see you workin'. nod

They'd probably prefer to make believe Riot never happened, holding on for dear life to Stand as the "good" Sly.

Plus the Woodstock thing...

...probably guarantees his lifetime pass.

Why discriminate on race ?
Who cares whether an artist is black or white ?
Why this question ?

Who'd he piss off with RIOT? Not me. Not any Maggots I know
Most def the establishment got irked (Orig cover was a
bastardization of Am flag, but funk folks love that jam).

Maybe you're thinkin' of the concert "no shows"?
That's old hat and more it's funny about Sly than anything
that would make me "pissed off" for all these years.

I think those of you who have issues with the thread should remember that it is about black artists who have achieved success with white audiences commercially or artistically. Many great black artists of every era fail to achieve the success they deserve because they don't appeal to white audiences.

Did you see their "Behind The Music" on VH1? They were accused of being anti-Semitic and were flamed in the early '90s. That's partially why you don't see their old videos on TV as much (unless it's on BET).

Yep, that was after Professor Griff's comments back then. I can't remember his words verbatim at this point tho. But PE's music even before his comments weren't exactly of the PC "we're all the same" crowd in the first place.

I don't necessarily know that that's why their old videos don't show up on tv, how often are other hip hop group's (who don't champion Black consciousness) old videos on tv? In the aftermath of Griff's comments mtv still showed their videos for a while, including one protesting Arizona's disregard for MLK's birthday ("By The Time I Get To Arizona"). I just think that it's not fashionable for Black consciousness in hip hop today - on video stations in general. Unfortunately, due to the music marketing zeitgeist consciousness in the mainstream became a fad.

you explain it so well. i like hip hop but not much of the recent stuff. they need to come back to the real fro

Did somebody mention Tina Turner? She's one of those Black artists who got more airplay on pop/rock stations than R&B stations.
