THE SUMMER OF 76

i saw the bi-centennial ships in the east river...firewroks
great Music... the radio was a fantastic thing,scwhinn stingrays.i got my 1st pair of turntables.. my baby sister was born...


summer of 76 was thebest summer ever... anyone else have memories of this great time?

The summer of '76 always stands out in my mind as the best summer ever!

I remember celebrating the Bi-centennial too! We went down to the Brooklyn prominade to watch the fireworks!

The Summer Olympics! Nadia Comenaci scored a perfect 10 (and she couldn't speak a lick of English.)

Went to North and South Cackalaka for the first time! It was my first summer vacation. We drove to SC. It was a 16 hr ride. (Took the Greyhound back from NC.)

I remember anticipating the day someone would toss the "N" bomb my way. I have no idea why that concerned me so much. (Guess I pictured a south where people flew confederate flag outside their windows like it was Old Glory.

OMG! I tasted Krispy Kreme Donuts in NC for the first time. They were out of this WORLD!!!

My first "older boyfriend"(he was 16.) We never officially broke up, I don't think.

My uncle in NC had a flippin' CB radio! And a fly ass van. I can still remember hearing Dorothy Moore's "Misty Blue" while riding in it.

In NC my cousin's lived in a cul-de-sac. And it had a pool.

And the last time I ever rode a bike was during the summer of '76. I fell off.

dang. i remember the fireworks and the bicentennial quarters and my mom buying me great big huge comic books for like 75 cents and i remember drinking lots of faygo redpop, but i wasn't allowed to drink faygo rock'n'rye for some reason, because that was "grown-up pop" - whatever the hell THAT was all about.

I remember that summer,my father bought me a new bed and these types of beds were popular back then.I forgot what it's called,but it consists of two single beds,with a wooden table in the middle.The table has a radio attached to it.So the two beds and the table were shaped like an "L" when placed in your bedroom.Does anyone know what the hell I'm talking about? A few months earlier,I remember meeting President Ford and shaking his hand.He was running for re-election,and our class took a field trip to meet him at the airport,or some kind of political event (can't recall).I remember thinking that he was a nice guy,and that it was a shame that he lost his re-election bid,lol.

I remember the Bicentennial too.Everywhere you went,there were red,white and blue stuff being sold...T-shirts,buttons,posters,books,you name it.The 4th Of July is always a big deal,but during THIS year,it was bigger and more hyped than than ever!

I also remember that in the summer of '76,the TV show "What's Happening" aired for the first time.

speaking of DVDs,did you get "Good Times Season 3" which came out last week? I've been watching it like crazy...lol...and the first seasons of "Happy Days" and "LaVerne and Shirley" came out yesterday.
