No one has been able to understand what Janet's been saying since Control. As much as I love her and her music, I think she needs a crash course in annunciation.

I have no trouble....do I get an award or something? wink There are some artists where I have to work hard to understand the lyrics (I only bother if they're worth the effort), but she isn't one of them.

Anyway, love the song. I was also pleased with it as a first single, but I knew it would bomb at radio.

"Got 'Til It's Gone" signals the "Virgin Sucks" sentiment shared amongst Janet fans against her label. Apparently, Janet's team at the time felt GTIG wasn't strong enough to be released domestically, so they only released the single in Europe. Janet was so upset by this that she fired everyone on the spot who made that call. This is only the beginning in the long Virgin mis-promotion/mis-handling of Janet's singles. Just look at the fiasco that was "Just A Little While" (they released that instead of "All Nite (Don't Stop)").

where's janet btw? did virgin kill promotion for the record? have they lost faith in the project or
what? the response to her latest record wasn't all that positive, was it? i only saw the video
for "just for a little while"--i wasn't impressed to say the least. she hasn't had a "got til it's
gone" in ages.. never heard her latest record though, so perhaps..
don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain
i'm high, so high

Basically the album sucked and there aren't any hit-worthy songs on there.

Harlepolis

A FUCKIN' COOL VIDEO headbang Will you upload the video 4 us to watch, Jan? smile

I loved the song as well. Shit, the whole "Velvet Rope" showcased JJ's dark side(To the fullest, without shallowness or fluff like her new album).

97 was her RICHEST periof eva IMHO, she must've gone through the rock bottom when she made that album. Lyricaly, its full of hurt(aside from or even beneath the raunchy sex theme).

I wish I know what she went through during the 1997 period.

I thought janet was being re-released with 6 additional songs.
True?
Rumor?
I haven't heard any stories of when just the re-release story.

Why most certainly, my dear. biggrin

Go to this link: http://www.bet.com/articl...-1,00.html
But click on "I Get Lonely" to watch "Got 'Til It's Gone." BET.com have the two videos mixed up.

And I so agree with you on Janet and 1997. That time was just so fertile for her artistically, albeit filled with depression for her.

Janet's still alive and kicking. She's laying low for a minute. The DVD "From janet. to Damita Jo" is coming out this fall (which you can now pre-order on amazon.com) and a new video from Damita Jo should be out around that time as well.

As far as a re-release of Damita Jo, officially, no. But rumormill sources are still saying November.
