'Let's go through the motions' and talk strictly about the up-tempo side of Jodeci!

Discussions about Jodeci's music usually centers around their ballads. That's natural because ballads have been their bread-n-butter, much like BoyzIIMen. But Jodeci has also put out some up-tempo joints that I still smoke today!

We first heard the "gospel funk" (to quote K-ci) of Jodeci on Father MC's "Treat 'Em Like They Wanna Be Treated". K-ci and JoJo, along with one of the song's producers, put down the bgv's and ad libs on this hip-hop classic. The group's first single was the funky "Gotta Love", but the group said that Uptown didn't support the single. The follow-up single "Forever My Lady" caught on like wild fire. The group usually played it safe and released only ballads from thereafter.

My favorite up-tempo joints on the first Jodeci CD are "My Phone", "Gotta Love", and "X's We Share" (I love their remixed performance of this song on Patti LaBelle's short-lived TV sitcom. I still have it on tape nod )

"Let's Go Through The Motions" is cool, especially the harmonious bridge. This is a song from that god awful movie "Who's The Man?" disbelief What a piece of crap!

DeVante served up some G-funk on the second lp with "In The Meanwhile" and "Sweaty" feat. Missy Elliot, but Mr. Dalvin outdid his big brother with "Gimme All You Got" dancing jig

I didn't really like the last CD by Jodeci, it had to grow on me. But I did take an immediate liking to the Mr. Dalvin produced "S'More" (getting help from Al Green, Missy and Stevie J.) and "Get On Up", the "riding" song of 1996.

K-ci and JoJo also helped lay down some funk for Tevin Campbell, Al B. Sure, Ralph Tresvant, and 2pac.

Now, when did you say the new Jodeci album was coming out? hmmm
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

UptownDeb

I've always thought a Jodeci/Dru Hill concert would be sorta nice.

Iam a big fan of their uptempo's and always was! I love "Alright" "Gotta love" "Play thang" even "Cherish".....also "Sweaty" and "lets go through the motions" were ahead of their time production wise and them as well as "Give me all u got" r classics! Heck that is funky shit right their.....I hated the way people ragged on their uptempo's all the time!

Infact, I always preferred After 7's slowjams or even Lo-keys (remember them and "I gotta thang 4 ya")

I always preferred their uptempo's.....the "Gotta love" video remix was also cool.....I do love the song "Forever my lady" though and dare i say it, their cover of Stevies "Lately" is better then his.....I prefer it by a long way!

Betya don't remember their very, very short appearance as an act in Halle berry's early film comedy "Strictly business"! They were the band playing in the club where Halle is a waitress or something like that! Movie dropped around 1990 and a non album cut is on the movie soundtrack! Soundtrack is top even today!

I always thought Devante' would do something on his own and be like a mini-Prince.I thought maybe he had something else to give us,but ,I guess not.

I usually don't like albums with a lot of interludes and segues. It's hard for me to stay focused on the songs. shrug

Yeah, but you have to admit that the interlude's music was awesome (ie. "P.I.B. 4 Play" and "Room 454: DeVante's Inhermission") Those interludes were off the chain!!!! headbang I wish they were actually songs instead of just snippets.

Neither could Roger Troutman or Teddy Riley, but he was still talented as hell. In fact most musicians can't sing. It's a rarity that you'll have artists like Prince, Aretha, Donny or Stevie that can do it all.

Okay - but do you consider Troutman & Riley having the same legacy as Prince? That's my point. I'm not saying these guys aren't talented (DeVante included) but they aren't on Prince's "all around" level smile

Speaking of mr "Devante, break it down right here" remember the cuts he produced with Al b sure BEFORE Jodeci....."C the lady" in particular (off al b's 3rd album) was cool!

Also I think Devante mixed Hi-fives classic "Just can't handle it" before Jodeci.....

I'm sure he produced/mixed other things around Jodeci's time too.....anyone think of any?
