That´s indeed sad. Let´s wish his legacy will shine on forever. RIP Rick James...
I didn´t agree with all his Prince bashing in interviews or his private life but the man is a legend and deserves better than that . I´ve listened to his Come And Get It album today...great.great funk.

Man was a good artist. He was no legend nothing but a P-Funk imitator that blew up.

He was a hater on both P-Funk and Prince. I do give him props though. Just keeping it real!

The only Rick album I can take seriously is "Throwin' Down." The rest have moments, but wind up being kind of silly, although fun. (Ever heard "Garden of Love?") This is from someone who not only has every Rick LP up to Cold Blooded, but also the Mary Jane Girls and Stone City Band releases. However, my latest impulse buy was the Deluxe Edition of "Street Songs" and disc 2 is a unreleased live performance (that kicks ass BTW). I'm now convinced that cat was brilliant, not so much for his lyrical content, but at his musical arrangements and the way he blended rock and R&B and made it accessible to the masses via pop music.

I think the difference b/w the two is that P-Funk was not for the masses. Rick's whole thing was designed to appeal to everyone
