Stevie's incredible. Operated on another plane.

Every once on a while on PBS here they re run the Austin City Limits (live music show) he was on and there's almost no words for how much I loved his style.

He played so effortlessly it adds even more to the tragedy of his passing.

The brightest flames really do seem to burn quickest.

Oh man, isn't it? He had the crowd in the palm of his hands-and you watch him play, and it's just like it's talking to you. So natural.

One of those guys where you just know music was air to him-like it is to myself and many people on the Org, but in more of the way that it flowed so well into his playing.

He never seemed forced-just always channeled, you watch his face and his playing and it's just beyond words. To me he's more talented than somebody like Yngwie Malmsteen, a guy that can play a million speed metal licks.

Stevie was the blues when he played. He felt it and made you feel it-and if there's anybody that hasn't heard him play, man they're missing out and I hope kids aren't growing up missing out on his music.

cool

His ability to play 'Albert King ' style is what impresses me the most about him.
I have never heard anyone do Albert like Stevie Ray.
He actually becomes Albert playing through a strat.
I guess thats why Albert called Stevie his 'Godson'

Stevie Ray touched so many people with his music and his recovery from substance abuse. He was always genuine and humble in regards to his music, it's something more artists could learn from.

If you like the Austin City Limits footage, check out Live at the El Macombo (small club in Toronto). It'll leave you with your jaw on the floor.

Much like Stevie, Danny Gatton put on a great show at Austin City Limits. I've never taken the time out to buy anything from Danny's catalog, but everytime I saw him play on tv I was never less than impressed. And much like Roy Buchanan (another brilliant Fender Tele axe man), Gatton comitted suicide. The great ones always have a distinctive touch on their instrument of choice, and these guys are no exception.

I was blessed to witness Stevie live and in person. I was floored!!! to say the least. Jeff Beck opened up and I was consumed, but Stevie came from deep, deep, deep from his soul. Besides Hazel I had never seen such soulful playing. Stevie and his guitar were truly ONE!

I saw him once on a late night talk show...just him and his guitar.
I was just blown away...NEVER had I seen that type of playing, the skill
had me awe-struck. The next day I went and bought the Double Trouble
tape.

The best guitarist ever...IMO.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Lovedad:

I agree with you 100%. He is a hell of a guitarist. headbang guitar. I would have loved to have caught him live before he passed away.
