ROXY MUSIC

Great Band! thumbs up! I was listening to some of their stuff today. It still rocks even after 30 or so years.

I recently loaded some of their stuff into Rhapsody, I'm really feeling that one album For Your Pleasure nod thumbs up!

I've always been a fan of that one track Slave to Love, after seeing 9 & a 1/2 Weeks for the first time, but that might be Brian Ferry's solo stuff. boxed

I was actually going to start a Roxy Music thread today. Not because I am a fan (yet), but because I saw some live performance of theirs from '73 today and i really liked it. I wanted more info about them in general, as I have only a very basic knowledge of them.

I just love Avalon. It's out on SACD now.
The tunes, the whole atmosphere of the record.
The Main Thing is just too cool sounding.

In a way, In Every Dream Home A Heartache and The Bogus Man could've made the "Spooky Songs" list. biggrin

Slave To Love is on Bryan Ferry's Boys And Girls along with Don't Stop The Dance.

If you dig the calmer moments on the Robert Plant solo releases, you'll dig Avalon.

I don't listen to Robert's solo work.

But do you think I'll dig Avalon anyway? biggrin

I alwys thought Japan's later work sounded a lot like Roxy Music. Try comparing Japan's "Gentlemen Take Polaroids" to "Avalon".

My fav song from them is "More Than This" off Avalon, which for me is also their best album (even though I own them all).

That's in my Top 6 from Avalon along with...
To Turn You On
Avalon
While My Heart Is Still Beating
The Space Between
The Main Thing

Actually, I could listen to that record without skipping anything.

Definitely. Most of their albums are like that for me. They bring a wonderful sense of spontaneity to their soundscapes. "For Your Pleasure" is probably one of their most adventurous records, and the tracks could be instrumentals for all I care - they'd still be interesting and highly listenable.

GangstaFam

I was actually thinking about starting a thread about them too.

Although I love the first 2 albums the most, I really appreciate most of their work. Something about Eno's influence on their early work kicks my ass. The fact that those records are from '72 and '73 boggles my mind. Yeah, they're quite glam in places and admittedly Bowie-esque, but they were way ahead of that curve. That synth/oboe solo in the middle section of "If There Is Something" remains one of the most astonishing moments in music history.

Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry - worship

For anyone who's a serious music lover, you need to investigate! Everything's there: gorgeous/dreamy/futuristic songs, wonderful lyrics and, of course, Bryan's voice. I strongly recommend 'The Thrill Of It All' box-set.

Bryan's 'Boys & Girls' album is also one of my all-time favourite albums. My mates think I'm a right old git for liking him (!) but it's superb. It could've been released yesterday - all his solo albums post-Avalon just have this timeless quality about them.

And, as for 'Windswept' - that song gives the chills every time I listen to it. Beautiful.

One of the greatest. They never made a bad album.

Don't get me started on Roxy Music. One of my fave alltime bands. Love them to death. Especially with Brian Eno who I also dig as a solo artist. "Virginia Plain" and "Love Is The Drug" are just some of the great cuts. Huge influence on another great band, Chic.
