My favorit,ive got so may.
Like "Sugar Walls" (12") bij Sheena Easton, or "G-Spot" by Jill Jones, "Playgirl" by Elisa Fiorillo, The original of "Nothing Compares with you " by The Family, 100 MPH by Mazzarati. The man has wrote too many , its a crime for a collector to get them , butt you realy want to get them because some are realy rare and realy good.

She also said that Stand back fits in the song Little Red Corvette. I just can't figure out where? Do you know? The chord progression is exactly the same, that's all.

i just heard a song by cheerokee, i believe its called I Swear (dont hold me to any spelling)
So, which song did Prince write, that another sang, that u loved the most? 4 me, It's a tie. A 3-way tie even! ***Prince wrote and per4med "I Feel 4 U", but it hit big 4 Chaka Kahn. She covered it and made it her own. She had Stevie Wonder in the background and Grandmaster ? rappin' her name. It was BAD! ***Prince wrote but didn't per4m "Manic Monday" 4 the Bangles, but he did play the piano on it. I know, I know, sure, he was bangin' Susanna Hoffs at the time, but I dig that song from the Bangles the most. Not just bcuz it was by Prince, (or Christopher as he was credited), but bcuz it truly was a good song. ***Prince wrote and per4med "Nothing Compares 2 U" but Sinnead O'Conner put it on the map. I even dig it more than his duet on it with Rosie Gaines. Her soulful, heart wrenching version of love lost is incredible. The video is captivating...it truly sells the song's message. What's Urs? if prince didnt write it hes a major factor in its design!!!

As to comments during "What Have You Done For Me Lately" during the Nude tour, I always took that as an "inside joke." Obviously, Jimmy and Terry wrote the song and Prince was kidding around that he was playing a song written by them.
DMSR, another interesting Janet Jackson mention. If you look at that "Control" video again, listen to the part Janet "plays" on the keyboards near the end. To me, that sounds strikingly similar to the keyboard riff near the end of "Everlasting Now."

hm, "Nothing Compares 2 U" is clearly the greatest hit ever by another artist than Prince with a song by him. Sinhead's rendition is ok, it's very soulful and dedicated. Prince per4med it live on occasion on the "Diamonds&Pearls" tour over here in Germany and Europe - simply one of the many cli-MAX-es of the shows. Rosie was just great on duetting with him, the NPS's arrangement was completely different from Sinhead's dry studio work. I loved it! Still, when I have this song in mind, the P&NPG arrangement brings tears and relief 2 my soul.
"Manic Monday" was performed by him and the Rev - back in '86 on the "Parade" tour! "Kiss" was almost not performed by him because it was written by him for an album of his Mazerati project. Fortunately, they rejected, so he took it for "Parade" and made it a No.1. 4 himself - smart freak. Still my favorite!!! "I guess u know me well, but i don't like winter ..." regards, andy

Thank You!!! Cool Love is such a cool song. That song is so unknown. His guitar work although, mixed down is great. Long live Cool Love. Stroke

"I guess u know me well, but i don't like winter ..." regards, andy he gave Brown Mark an acoustic version of the song. Mark used the hi-hat part to trigger the acoustic guitar -- which is that kickass keyboard sound through the whole song. When P heard what they had done to it, THEN he decided to take the song... it's in the archives of p.org. My favorite would HAVE to be SUPERHOT LADYCOP!! what a jam. Sorry - so - to SUMMARIZE - Mazarati didn't REJECT the song. They were in MID-production when Prince came in and said "Oh HEEEELLLLL no. That's MINE!!!"
uhh, to paraphrase. And I re-iterate: SUPERHOT LADY COP. THAT is my favorite. That and WEDDING FEAST. Sure, HE did it, but it was done in the OKLAHOMA musical first. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I truly do believe he wrote not only what have you done for me lately but others that Jimmy Jam and TL "produced" around that time, a settlement perhaps, a favour? who knows a collaboration that went south??? its anybodys guess, it is very Prince sounding for sure...but then Jimmy J and Terry L learned much from Prince about churning out hits and studio work, they were right there when Prince was the man, writing hits for everyone, hits of his own, movies etc etc..
he was just exploding hot, thick, artistic jizz-am all over the nation it would be impossible not to get any on ya! "Are u gonna really just stand there and act like u don't want this?"

PRINCE DID NOT WRITE THIS SONG!!! Kate did..and she has pointed this out on numerous occassions...she had a song that she felt was very prince like....she sent a tape of it to him and he added instrumentation to it...i dont think they have *EVEN* met in person to this day. Even with the stuff she has done with him, its all been by mail back and forth. Ditto "In This Bed I Scream" Wendy and Lisa actually sent recommendations to Prince after he sent them the song..but he didnt use any of their recommendations.. And some of you all need to read the *entire* thread if you are going to post a responce...Its funny as F**K to read soo many people correct others on "Stand Back". Prince didnt write the song..blah blah blah..only did keyboard work..then, someone will post... "STAND BACK" as their favorite song written by Prince, but not performed... LOL..its funny yet annoying all at once...

Well my fellow Orgers...thanx 4 a more than overwhelming response 2 this thread!
I've really enjoyed reading all the opinions on Prince's artistry shared by other recording artists...b it good or b it bad, he has definately affected many people on many levels. His songs and style r a staple in the music industry...we owe him so much! The 80's would have been a complete drag without Prince and his influence. Keep on posting...much love 2 all y'all!!!!! |

Ok - My favorite would also be "Nothing Compares 2 U", but I LOVE his version with Rosie Gaines FAR better than Sinead!
I also love most of what The Time recorded. mainly "Get it UP" "C.....O..O..L" I have no idea whether Prince wrote anything Janet recorded, but I believe he has written alot more than "What have you done for me lately" - I believe that because she is a Jackson, Prince will never receive credit & he very well may have agreed to this for some strange reason! I strongly believe that "Waterfalls" by TLC was definitely written by Prince Other favorite written songs: "Sssshhh" - I love his version much better than Tevin! "Glamorous Life" - Sheila E Shoot - a lot of the songs he wrote for other people (just like many of "the B-Sides") have been better than his own recordings. NOT all... but I'm saying some... www.3121.com

I might agree with u if the Jackson clan weren't so gung ho on their independence from eachother. I know Janet wrote with Jam&Lewis, they helped her get her self in2 that album. The fact that she recorded it in Minneapolis was only bcuz Jam&Lewis needed 2 get Janet out of L.A., away from her father who wanted her 2 do more Michael-ish music. When they showed the album 2 her daddy, he hated it! They were elated, bcuz if he hated it, they knew the KIDS would LOVE IT! Regarding the Prince factor on Janet...well we all know Jam&Lewis went 2 the school of Funk, headmastered by Prince. It is doubtful they would have had that "Minneapolis Sound" without having been taught by The Man himself. They owe Prince alot, shame they haven't acknowledged that fact. |

Did Prince ever perform a studio verison of A Love Bizarre". I know he did it live and heard a few seconds of it on the "Purple Medley", which was excellent! Just wondering.
Also, I have several Stevie Cd's with "Stand Back" and Prince does not have a songwriting credit for it. But he also doesn't get a credit for keyboards. Hmmm...
