Love Thy Will B Done

especially the "Prince Mix" which i think is on the "Martika's Kitchen" CD Maxi-Single (try digging THAT up on eBay). there was an excerpt of this version in an Ahdio show last year (the September one I think). priceless.

I did not care for Sinead O'Conner version of "Nothing Compares to you" Prince's version is much better because it is sung black gospel style.
I hate to say it her version appealed to mostly white people and I guarantee the people who are posting that they think her version is better than Prince's are white. This song did not appeal to the black community because most of us think she can't sing in the first place her voice has no appeal to the majority of african-americans.

I sincerely doubt that "What Have You Done For Me Lately" was written by Prince -- HOWEVER, it's possible that Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis came up with the groove while they were with the Time, or maybe while jamming with Prince after they were fired. It certainly has a Princely groove to it.

I just bought the DVD of Janet Jackson's "Design of a Decade" and had forgotten how many members of the Time appeared in the video to "Control." Jimmy, Terry, Jellybean, Jerome ... and a name-drop to Morris!

Love... thy will be done. Although P's version is slightly better, Martika's version is still very heartfelt and honest-sounding...

Jungle Love.... OH-wee-Oh-Wee-OOOOO! the ultimate P-party song after a few/ lot of drinks... (when sex is out of the question.....)

Best of all: Manic Monday. I already liked this song a lot when I didn't know who P was. It's the perfect POP song.

I hate NC2U. In the Family/P version the emotions sound much more reaLISTIC. Sinead's version is over-dramatised, esp. in the video

Oh brother...don't segregate music.

I dig all styles of music per4med by all types of people. I happen 2 be Mexican-American, my second "mama" being a beautiful black woman down the street from us, with whom I lived with 4 quite a large portion of my childhood. My niece & nephew r black & mexican. If U didn't care 4 Sinead's version than that should b that, don't make UR opinion the whole make-up of the black community. I know from attending a black gospel church as a child (New Light Baptist Church), and singing in their choir, that I can appreciate music of all genres.

Prince and Rosie sing their lungs out on "Nothing Compares 2 U", but Sinead sings her HEART out on it. I happen 2 enjoy the production and heart that went in2 Sinead's version better. I feel Prince's version (live in the studio, with a small audience) was merely 2 show how it could have been done, I don't feel the soul or heart of the song in it.

As 4 Sinead not being able 2 sing, well u may have a point there, bcuz I don't really care 4 any other thing she's done...I've liked maybe 1 or 2 cuts from her other cds that I've heard.

Truth b told, I loved Sinead's version b4 I even knew Prince had written it. I remember when it came out, and the video and all...and loved the song.

...and that should matter most, right?

oh and sineads version of nothing compares to U, doesnt come close to prince and rosie!!!! sinead did a wonderful job singing it. however when you listen to prince and rosie you actually feel the pain in that song..not to mention all the soul they put into it. sineads is pop music, nothing wrong with that. i think it was meant to be more than that.

The Dance Electric...Prince´s version is way better than Andre´s.
Noon Rendezvous..Sheila´s version is nice but I just can´t get enough of that rehearsal version of the Revolution...my favorite breakfast music...15 minutes of pure listening pleasure!
A Love Bizarre...even though it really belongs to Sheila now!
Nothing Compares 2 U..I don´t like the version with Rosie ´cause I don´t think it should be sung as a duet plus I just love the versions he did live in Argentinia and in Spain, La Coruna...they were just awesome!!
Get it up.7779311.Jerk Out...definitely Jerk Out..Jungle Love...but then again, we wouldn´t have The Time then, would we ?
and talking about Janet Jackson´s What Have You Done For Me Lately ? I don´t really care about the credits or whatever because when it comes to Jimmy Jam and Terry and Prince, you never know who probably stole a little bit from who...if you listen to Janet´s "You Can Be Mine"(1986,Control), you can here some snippets from Possessed/backgroundmusic from Purple Rain(the movie, not hte song)...I think it´s the scene where Morris talks about his Italian cook named Gino .....

Also about this whole Nothing Compares 2 U thing....
Sinead's version is better thn the Family's by far. The insturmentation in the family version is HORRIBLE along with the vocals. Sinead sang it extremely well but the insturmentation was alright. The Hits version is the best by far. Down to the second of silence b4 the song kicks back in after the sax solo that must have been recorded in the rain under a streetlight. I love how they play off each others vocals as well. Sinead showed him what could be done with the song. Prince noted and burned her up with his revised version. The Family version is so horribly wack, I can't even listen to it. Ohhh ohh ohhh ohhh ohh ohhh ohhh...HORRIBLE

a lil something about sinead...I am a BLACK sinead fan. I have all her albums..and she not only can sing..the girl has soul. So please don't generalize when you say only white people like her because i was hip-ed to her by a mexican friend..not that race matters...

alot of people discredit sinead because her first couple of albums were very rock orientated and her singing style was very angry white women..scream/singing you could call it...alanis morrisset sounds a lot like how sinead used to...

i really think sinead was impacted by Nothing Compares 2 U. After that album (Emperor's New Cloths), sinead's albums took a quieter tone. it was as if she realized that she could convey stronger emotions by feeling the songs..not only screaming them. Her last album (Faith & Courage) contained songs that were produced and or written by Kevin "She'kspere" Briggs, David Stewart and Wyclef Jean and the combinations created *IMHO* her best work yet...Soulful, gutwrenching, beautiful songs. From rasta, irish gospel, rock to soul ballads. You should seriously check out this album. If you are willing to put your *own* prejudices aside, close your eyes and "FEEL", i swear you wont be dissapointed.

Why do I point out Dave Stewart? Well, cause he was the man that helped give voice to the other white-soul sista Annie Lennox. I would love to hear an album with Annie, Ms. Badu and Sinead...THAT WOULD BE A LESSON.

once again..that wonderful edit comment:

Didn't he write that Stevie Nicks song? Or did he just play keyboards? Stand back

He did the keyboard/synthesizer. Stevie did a VH1 Storyteller show, and she talked about how the song came about and how she got PRN to play on it. "I was driving down a country road with my husband, and 'When Doves Cry' was playing on the radio. She fell in love with the song. Then, she told her husband to pull over because she had this great idea for a song in her head. They pulled over, and she wrote 'Stand Back'. She wanted PRN to either play or sing on the song, but her Mgrs couldn't get him to (remember this is back in the day when he was secluded). Then, one day the band was in the Recording studio and they got word that PRN was there to play on the record. He walked in...went over to the keyboards and in a matter of seconds...he did a little bit of this and a little bit of that...and he was finished...and left...and that was their encounter..." She went on to say what a genious he was to lay down that part for the entire record in seconds, and it is one of her biggest hits to this day....just thought u might want to know...she also talks about it on the cd sleeve for her Greatist Hits cd...

I believe he played guitar on that one.
I think she mentioned it in an interview, that he basically just came in, did the guitar part and left.

I agree with you on this....except I do not care for Sinead's version that much. I can listen to it if I happen upon it, but that's it. Prince and Rosie definitely had all their soul in that song, at least that is what I hear. They sound perfect together.
I miss Rosie, and think she was one of the best people to have worked with Prince.

Did Prince really write this one? Prince played the song on the Nude Tour with him saying something like "Did I write this?" or "Who wrote this?". So, u'd think he wrote it, but in Janet's 'Design of a Decade'-cdbooklet he get's no credits! How come..?

You're right...he did right this one, but claims Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis gave it to Janet...

Here are three that I regret Prince gave away (and he probably feels the same from public statements he's made and what he performs in concert)

Cool - The Time
Nothing Compares 2 U - The Family (then Sinead O Conner)
Mutiny - The Family

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but he almost gave "Kiss" away to Mazarati, but I'm sure he's glad he kept it for himself.

I think he DID write that one...or at least he took credit for it in one of his tourbooks, at least.
