I'm not sure Prince wrote that one... My top 5 are: Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead I Feel For You - Chaka Manic Monay - Bangles Love...Thy Will Be Done - Martika

Stand Back is not a Prince song. He played keys on it, that's it. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

C.....O..O..L What's that spell?

Hmm, hard question. Many of the songs he wrote for others are very beautiful.
Love...Thy Will B Done Nothing Compares 2 U Those two are probably my favorites of all the songs he wrote for others. "Love Thy Will B Done" for it's sheer beauty and for the haunting element it contains. "Nothing Compares 2 U" because it's one of those very rare timeless songs. Just an incredible tune. Shame he hasn't released a real nice studioversion of the song himself. I know there's the one he did for "THE HITS", but that's a live version. I'd like one with just Prince singing and minimal instrumentation..... One Nite Alone, perhaps?????

Did Prince really write this one? Prince played the song on the Nude Tour with him saying something like "Did I write this?" or "Who wrote this?". So, u'd think he wrote it, but in Janet's 'Design of a Decade'-cdbooklet he get's no credits! How come..? don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain i'm high, so high

0=U
sure, because I think this is a song that sinead saw more in than prince. I think he's still pissed thad he can't perform it better than her. But that's just the way it is. If he would have seen the potential of that song, he wouldn't have put it away on the family album. He almost made that mistake again with kiss. But I never heard anybody perform kiss better then him. no no even mr sexbomb love, thy will be done ... could easely be next to nothing but, that one he performs it better also, IMHO (london astoria 1995) EDD. sorry had to edit that, = is compares to so 0=2U would be nothing compares to to you, and that's too too. I was only joking before about Kenny - but I'll have to say the Family's version of Nothing Compares 2 U - my favourite version of the song by a mile. I fell in love with it as soon as I heard it. Sinead did a good job of popularising it

I know it's not a HIT, but on the Yellow bootleg, there is Hu Huh,
written for Ray Charles (for a Pepsi commercial if I recall right) and I love this song. Then of course Love thy will be done for Martika Old friends for sale ( wasn't it for Joe Cocker ?) Five women ( for Cocker also I think) The top ONE is without a doubt Nothing compares to Uby Sinead O'connor. . Born 2 smile

***"Cool Love" by Sheena Easton(1988)---I love this one! It wasn't a hit or anything, but it's a GREAT song with clever lyrics...."Pardon me,boy, did U say that U were leavin'? I hope this reason's better than the one U gave before..."

1. nothing compares 2 u
2. love, thy will be done 3. love is thicker than blood or something like that on the 2nd mavis staples cd. that would be a kool if PRINCE would put out a cd of His versions of the songs written and popularized by others. would love 2 hear His versions of #s 2 & 3 from my list.

i heard the nude tour where they are doing "what have you done for me lately" and prince on three occasions says...who wrote that??? then it segues into partyman. when the song first came out i thought prince was behind it. then a friend of mine at the time who was way into prince. he told me that prince wrote it, i havent been able to confirm it. but, when prince does a cover in concert normally its a classic. it may be another situation where he gave away a song, like he tried to do with kiss. maybe it was a peace offering to jimmy and terry for kicking them out of the time. lots of people dont get credit for work they do on albums. like wyclef didnt get any production credt for lauren hills album.

No,I don't believe that Prince wrote "What Have You Done For Me Lately".And as far as I know,Wyclef had nothing to do with Lauryn's album.

listen to wyclefs album ecleftic, in the first track he speaks about helping lauren out and her taking all the production credit on "miseducation.....

okay; about Stand Back; Stevie was recording it but it didn't work out. She called Prince or Prince just happened to drop by in the studio and she told him she couldn't get it right. So he helped her out, played some keyboards (NOT guitar) and then Stevie was so grateful that she gave him songwriting credit.
And best song; Chaka Khan's rendition of Eternity. Sheena Easton doing 101 (better than Sugarwalls) and of course; Martika, Love Thy Will Be Done And a special mention for Sinead O'Connor for turning a horrible song into sumthing awfully commercial, so it got played so often it makes me sick to the stomach to listen to it. But her version was a hundred times better than any version Prince ever did. She FELT the song. Cry on, girl.

I never liked 'Manic Monday', and i'd never guess Prince wrote it...
Anyway, Nothing compares 2 u is beautiful, but why did she change it to it's been 7 hours and 15 days... sounds better with 13 days..lol

Sinead did a very nice ´Nothing Compares´, IMO it´s in the same level of Prince´s version. Chaka´s ´I feel for you` IMO is better than P´s

According 2 Stevie Nicks, on VH1 Storytellers, she was jammin' 2 "Little Red Corvette", and thought up some new lyrics 2 the groove. She phoned Prince (How cool is that, 2 just phone Prince) and said she had a new idea on his song, but couldn't think of this particular musical part that was needed 2 complete the song, if he could help her. As the story goes, he was at the studio quicker than u can say anotherloverholeinyourhead...and baddabing!, finished it up 4 her. They both loved the new mix with the new lyrics, he went on his way, she went on hers, they never spoke again, she had a hit...he got mo' money...and the rest is history. |
