SOME GOOD 'UNS BEING MENTIONED SO FAR

Keep 'em coming! How about these:

Planet Rock by Afrikan Baambaata and The Soul Sonic Force
Street Dancing by Break Machine
Let It All Blow by Dazz Band
The Show by Doug E. Fresh "Six minutes Doug E Fresh you're on, you're on, you're on!"

The first time I saw breakdancing was on a 1979 edition of Souuuuul Traaaaain with Jeffery Daniels from Shalamar breaking to "Working Day And Night" by Michael Jackson. That was the first time I saw the backslide!

Who remembers Breakdance the movie with Kelly, Ozone and Turbo. Kelly just made up the numbers but Turbo especially and to a lesser extent Ozone, had the moves, Turbo was the king of breakdance back then...

BTW, who body pops / pop locks these days? I'm sure there are one or three orgers out there who can't resist busting those moves in 2004. Confess!!! biggrin

I got a DVD box set with the 2 Breakdance movies and Beat Street. I'd love for the soundtracks to be re-released on CD one day. I've downloaded most of them though and have a couple of singles I found on vinyl in second hand stores.

This list is the best one I've seen so far.

Regarding the breakdancing films, my friends and I went to see both 'Breakin'' and 'Breakin' 2' back in the day, but we all agreed they paled in comparison to 'Beat Street'--both the movies and the soundtracks. Leave it to the west coast to take something and water it down and make lots of money off it while the east coast would try to keep it real and not be able to sell it as well.

Maybe we were just bitter 'cos we we lived in NYC and couldn't identify with all that L.A beach crap.

I liked all those films when they first came out, but don't really dig any of them now. The only one even remotely close to that that I still enjoy is Krush Groove. Not really a breakdancin' movie, but it's got some great breakdancin' tunes in it and it's still goooood! smile

I remember convincing one of our teaches in junior high to let us watch it...yeah, she shut it off when the sex scene started. Oops. doh!

Perhaps. It did seem like "Breakin'" got all the attention. It was flashier, more entertaining, etc. I actually dug it, simply because even though it wasn't "ruff, rugged & raw" the flick still had great dancers in it. "Beat Street" was a story and I think it got lost among what folks thought at the time to be a "trend". In the end, I think both films reflected their respective scenes (L.A. & NY).
Since I grew up in Columbus, OH, I took what I could from both.
