Covers We Love. I like Johnny Cash's versions of One (U2) and Hurt (NiN) so much.... it is weird. Cuz I adore both originals. But Cash puts something into these songs... amazing.
What covers do you like? Please state artist, song and original artis AND WHY YOU LIKE THIS COVER.

Nirvana - Man who sold the World (David Bowie) one of the best Bowie covers, Kurt gave the song a new feeling for me.
Van Halen - Pretty Woman (Roy Orbinson) especialy with the guitar intro, this has got to be my all time favourite cover. Van Halen has done more great covers, such as Where have all the good times gone and You realy got me. WHAT IF THERE IS NO TOMORROW? THERE WASN'T ONE TODAY!

Ryan Adam's cover of "Wonderwall" by Oasis, because he turns it from pop song to beautiful, heartbreaking song.
Lucero's cover of "Kiss the Bottle" by Jawbreaker, because they capture the pain and sorrow of the song better than Jawbreaker did. Prince's cover of "A Case of You" by Joni Mitchell. Both versions are so pretty and sad. I adore both versions. And the lyrics are killer.

Too many to name really. I'm digging k.d. lang's new album of all covers. What's cool is that the best one on there is a cover of herself.

The Wedding Present's version of "Pleasant Valley Sunday" by The Monkees

Leave your brothers and sisters in the sea" "If U had the chance 2 see the future would U try?"

That's a great choice - I love Gedge. This is probably an obvious choice, but Talking Heads version of Take Me to the River preserved their geeky, new wave anxiety while managing to sound soulful. Red House Painters did drastic reinterpretations of The Cars All Mixed Up and Paul McCartney's Silly Love Songs that I like a lot.

That's a great choice - I love Gedge. . AAAHHHH!!! No way!! I love running into other David Gedge fans. The man is an absolute god in my eyes. heh....at Cinerama's last Chicago show, he actually looked at me and jokingly said "you again?". I simply cannot begin to tell you how much I adore this man. It's almost perfect timing for this to come up - I've just started the process of rediscovering the Wedding Present in the past month. I really hadn't followed anything the band or Gedge had done after Seamonsters, but a little while back was digging through my old vinyl and found my copy of Bizarro - I went straight to track #9 - Take Me and it was 1990 all over again. I'll always remember the pure hatred the British press had for Gedge and the WP - tasteless fools. To be honest, I wasn't even aware the band wasn't active anymore, or that Gedge had a new project. Are Cinerama in the same vein as WP ie. indie guitar pop? [This message was edited Sat Aug 7 23:06:09 2004 by flipwilson]
