I know I'm going to get bashed for this but I think Eddie Murphy's 1992 Motown release "Love's Alright" is a damned good album. If anyone remembers, the single and video was "I Was A King". This album has everything from funk, to rock, to house.

I was looking through the credits and the album features cameo appearances from some of the biggest names in rock and R&B. Several of the tracks feature Ernie Isley on guitar and everyone's favorite.....good ole' Larry Graham on bass.

When I first bought the album in 1992, I was shocked to see that the majority of the songs were written by Eddie Murphy and he even plays keyboards on the album.

I saw an interview with Eddie years ago and he told the reporter he wanted to be a musician before he was a comedian.

The album is nothing stupid and silly like "Put Your Mouth On Me", it is a real serious effort and I think he did a good job of it.

I love it too and it is very different to his album prior to that "So happy"! The 2nd half, starting with gloriously giddy track "Whatzupwitu" is the best! The lyrics to "Whatzupwitu" r very inspiring to me and I give Eddie good props on writing them!

"Don't give up on love" should still be played on late night lovers request radio and is a gem if u ask me! "one" is uplifting as well and "Always is love" is very nice and cool too.....very differnt in tone to the slightly women bashing "So happy" album of late 80's! Obvioulsy by "Loves alright" he had found his true love etc.....

..on "So happy", tracks like "Till the moneys gone" "Love moans" r personal to eddie I think as they show women at that time only wanted his money and little else.....I love all his albums though and it's great to c a fan of Eddies work that does not just include "Party all the time","Put ur mouth on me" or of course "Whatzupwitu".....all 3 songs though would get a good bashing from around here if given a chance anyway so even those 3 r off limits to anyone admitting to liking them!

I hated that song too. There's some junk on the album but there are some good tracks also. My favorite is the title track, "Love's Alright".

Eddie's no award winner but I would love to see what he could become if he would stick with it.
